Speedometer Problems
This morning I was leaving to go to work, and I rode down to the end of my road at about 35 letting the bike warm up and getting my body used to the cold air.
At the end of the road I took off like a bat out of hell like I always do and I looked down at the speedo and noticed it was reading 65, I know I was going at least 80, anyways I slowed down and it just stayed stuck at 65 untill I got to about 30, then it would just fall down to 30 and start working again untill I hit 65. It did this all the way to work, and on my lunch break so I stopped by the dealer on the way home to see if this was a common problem or an easy fix. The dude there poked around for a little bit and pulled on the speedo cable and poked and prodded at the instrument cluster, and said everything looks normal, but he wanted me to drop it off and leave it with them a couple of days so they could take a look at it. I told him I did not have a ride home and I would bring it by in a couple of days. Anyways I was riding home and after I got out of bumper to bumper rush hour traffic I opened it up on the highway and it worked fine all the way home. Has anybody else had this problem before or know what could have caused it? Do yall think it will happed again? |

I think the most likely cause is a slightly loose speedo cable. If it's firmly seated at the wheel (left side of the hub there is a speedo gear), and firmly seated up on the gauge cluster side, I think it would be unlikely to happen again.

Im with Alex on this one... I guess it could be a slight problem if the bike wasn't warmed up or some stuff was in the cable line causing it to stick... but Im not sure.

Funny you say that, cuz I too have an 09 in red and my tachometer died ... just ca-put at 500 miles. I took it to the dealer and they were stumped... They've never seen that before but luckily it was still under warranty.
