What do you think of my tire wear?

This picture is of my front tire (the better OEM one). I returned today from a 134 mi. ride (mostly twisty), and noticed the wear at the edge was noticeably rougher than the rest, which is generally always smooth. Any ideas what this could mean?

Also, I am wondering why the "chicken strip" is significantly larger on this tire than on the rear (rear is ~ 1/2"). Is this normal?

that's the reason.

my front chicken strip has always been wider than the rear, so from my experience, I'd say it's normal.

Is your front tire properly inflated? It could use more air if the chicken stripe is that wide? Justa guess on my part.

define properly. my tire pressures are set to what I want and checked regularly, if that's what you're asking.

Yes, the tire pressure is correct. The tire is somewhat cupped from being under-inflated, but I have since taken corrective action.

Kelly, are you saying it is the twisty, or the long ride (or both)? Also, why would it be rougher than the rest? I don't recall ever seeing marks on the tire this rough. I usually look after every ride, at least casually. It isn't the first twisty ride I've done, but it was the longest twisty. I was also working on hanging off my bike, so figure it was actually leaning a little less than it has when I was primarily counter-steering and giving it weak leans. I don't know if that is important to mention, but thought I would just in case.

...the twisty part.

The more you work the sides of the tire in turns, the more it will have that type of rough texture. If the speed was higher than normal through the turns, that would account for it. Look at some pictures of racing bike tires after a track day... they are much worse than that. Think of it as making use of the bike as it was meant to be used. No worries, just ride!

I rolled-up on a Ducati 998, a couple of CBRs, and something else, as they where preparing to launch through the twisties. Let me tell you, I showed these boys how to ride, and how to ride for significantly less $$$ and still look gooood (I went right and they went left). ;D

That is how my Dunlop GT501 looked before it was replaced at about 12500kms (wear pattern), the tread was rough like that after a hard ride over the twisties.

In fact I believe that is also a Dunlop GT501?

Tire looks normal to me. The rear tire gives a bit more(contact patch wise) than the front. < You know for chicken strips, front just shows you have some lean in reserve

My 12mi. (one way) commute seems to have tamed the rougher spot.... it looks a little bit smoother now.

If your asking because you want to put them on a 250...well those just won't fit as I believe that bike is an r1
