I'm not usually one to bash cops... but, REALLY??

The WTF moment of the week. Seems as if she's trying to justify her job any way she can. I hope she doesn't get re-elected.

The police don't create the laws, they inforce them. I know that sometimes, police are embarrassed when they get a call/complaint on things like this and have no choice but to go and "uphold the law." Getting ill at the police is like killing the messenger.

For the cops it is like getting stuck between Rock and a hard place.

If someone had an allergic reaction to the lemonade because their mom was crushing peanuts on the same cutting board we would be having a different conversation. Not saying it's not a sad story but the second something goes wrong, people are very quick to point fingers.

Police also have discretion to leave things alone. It's not just an ordinary officer, but the police chief. Are you telling me a chief of police has enough time in his/her day to shut down lemonade stands? Also, for you guys who are saying "it's the law" it's not. It's a city ordinance. Breaking the law results in a misdemeanor or felony, neither of which is the case here.

Brian, I understand if you have a worry over allergic reactions, but people with food allergies are usually very vigilant about what they eat and drink.

A local ordinance says you can't do the lemonade stand thing. They got fined for breaking said ordinance. Sure sounds law-ish

BTW... a local ordinance IS a local law.

It's ok for you to disagree with me. I just think that 30 years ago, a police chief would have bought a glass of lemonade rather than shut it down. Living in a litigious-happy society has it's pitfalls.

No dude, I think it sucks too. We sold lemonade out in the front yard when I was a kid. I'm just sayin' that it's not the cops' fault, they have to enforce the laws, local police also enforce local ordinances. The blame would be on the group that made said ordinance. Of course, the ordinance is all about money. I doubt they give a rat's a$$ about the safety end of it.

There is no danger being prevented here. I did say you shouldn't blame the police, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's retard that this kind of sh*t happens in our society.

This is true, but I have seen and observed how police "enforce the law". I know that not all policemen are bad, but IMHO the vast majority of police that I have seen and heard about are power-hungry, corrupt 's!

Law enforcement has better things to do than shutting down a kid's lemonade stand! Besides are they going to tase the kid if he/she refuses? Or better yet, arrest them?

There's more crimes being committed in our communities that should take priority over a lemonade stand.

So what's next? Are they gonna arrest/fine anyone that has a yard/garage sale now because they don't have a business license?

That sucks. I remember trying to sell lemonade when I was little with my neighbors. It was a lot of fun! We split the money up and bought squirt guns and water balloons and had a water fight later that week!

I think the police should really loosen up.

As a prior city ordinance officer, we don't decide what the ordinances are but we/I did give warnings if the offender was cooperative, but if we were called again to the same location there was no more warnings. We would issue the citation and tell them that they could contest it and request a review hearing.

Cops use discretion every day to not arrest people who are clearly high on crack/meth/heroine.

Priorities? What's that?
