Exhaust leak

I just installed a two brothers slip on exhaust and theres a bit of a leak where it clamps on. Would "the right stuff"(rated to 450 degrees) work or do I need to use special high heat exhaust silicon?

use RTV high temp silicon gasket maker. That's what came in the package with my two brothers slip-ons when I had them, so I would assume that it would work for you as well,

I actually used an exhaust leak sealer (gooey stuff you dab on to your leak) that I got from AutoZone (paid like $3 I think) on the slight leak I have where my DanMoto sticks on...instructions said to wait 4 hours, so I've been driving the cage today...about to see if it'll work and hold up.

Are you supposed to use a sealant when adding a slip-on? I added an MGP Growler and I just used the stuff it came with, which were 2 metal clamps.

What are the pros/cons to using a sealant and where do you use the sealant?
Where the can meets the first connector or where that connector meets the original pipe?

if it leaks without sealant, use sealant. If it doesn't leak without sealant, don't worry and go for a ride.

EDIT: wow that was totally un-coherent. fixed.

I bought (probably the same) stuff but haven't put it on yet... I have a small leak on start up, but after it warms up, it goes away... So I haven't put it on yet. So far, I haven't noticed anything bad, but I have been checking after each ride to make sure...

I also had a leak, after installing my danmoto exhaust, probably because it's off just a little bit where it slips on...but I just put some high temp rtv sealant on there. Gonna let it rest for another 30 mins, then test it.

Just finished a 2 hour long ride...the dried paste held up pretty well (no leak @ idle) and the color kinda blends with the bronzish color of the header pipes, so all is good aesthetically as well. WIN

it would have been easier to take the can off, put some sealant on the inside of the joint, and then twisted the can back and forth a little as you re-installed the can. Then you could have wiped off the excess and not worried about the color at all.

ahh!..now why did I not think of that?... perhaps because I'm a lazy bastard and that sounds like too much work to fix a minor leak I have a high temp black spray paint that I was planning to paint my stock can with, but never did, I might use that to paint all exposed pipes black though...hmm...

How do you know when you have an exhaust leak? Sound? Does it "blow?"

1. You hear your exhaust popping when you decel.
2. You put your hand down and feel air coming out by the connections.
3. Water leaking from the exhaust connections when you first turn your bike on.
