Not starting after rain...FIXED

FIXED

Looks like some water got into the float bowls. Drained 'em and it took some cranking because as I mentioned there is not "prime" position on the petcock but it did fire eventually.

Just rode the thing to work right now, it's pouring pretty hard over here.

Anyway, it made it here just fine but now it will not start. It cranks and everything else but won't actually fire.

Lights are on are as well. Any ideas?

It's a 2004.

Drained the carbs to get any water out but this thing doesn't have a "prime" position on the petcock...I'm hoping it didn't foul the plugs.

Pod filters? Is the engine warm or cold?

Try briefly with full choke, then back it way down, then open the throttle 1/16 to 1/8 turn as you are cranking. Then try holding it wide open briefly while cranking.

If still nothing, I would try to get it out of the rain and start looking at electrical connections that are wet and dry them out.

Got it.

Thank you for the help

No pod filter for what it's worth.

Strange that the water made its way into the fuel, check your gas cap seal, and drain line on the rear of the tank, verify its clear with an air compressor, and the hose itself.

I had this problem on my EX, it was the tank drain that was clogged.

I'll walk out back and check it out in a minute. I'm assuming the rest of the fuel is fine since it started after draining the carbs.

Unfortunately there's only one way to get water that far into the carburetors, I'm gonna guess being that water is heavier than gas, it's at the bottom, so be careful if you switch to reserve.

You might want to dump that fuel, or at least check it, and check that drain. As I said I had issues with it on my EX500.

I should have figured as much...

I check out that drain, it's possible I pinched it or something somewhere.

Be sure to blow the line out, including the fitting on the back of the tank, open to gas cap and be sure you can hear/feel the air.

So after getting it started in the morning, I went to head home for lunch and it would start but wouldn't rev past like 5K.

This was after draining the carbs, so I knew that there was definitely water in the tank. @Ghostt good call.

We siphoned some fresh gas out of one of the cars in the shop and I filled up the tank above the reserve line so it could pull from the top. Made it home that way.

When I got home from work, I pulled and drained the tank, drained the carbs again, blew the line, and all is well and good.

Hopefully this thread helps the next guy who runs into the same problem
