How does the rear brake pad rattle clip go in place on my rear brake?[Fixed]
I can't seem to figure out how the spring clip called a "rattle clip" goes on the rear brake caliper.
Do you put the clip in place first and then the pad or the other way around? I also don't know which way around it goes. Anyone have a picture or can you tell me how it fits in place? Last futzed with by Wanderer; May 8th, 2017 at 11:07 AM. |

The service manual supplement has an exploded drawing on page 11-3. Have you seen that?

The base manual and supplement are available, but I can't tell you where offhand. You need them if you're going to work on your bike though. There was a recent thread with links, as I remember.
Here is the drawing, but I don't know if it's going to answer your question: |

I thought of buying a Haynes manual for my Ninja, but I haven't done it yet. Any recommendations on what to buy? My rear brake pads still going into place right because I don't know how the rattle clip goes in.... |

I don't like Haynes or Clymer manuals. I normally stick to the factory manuals.

Last year when I wanted to get the manuals, I didn't find any online sources, so I bought a CD from eBay seller "mich-anit". It was a set of three manuals, the "base manual" from '87-'88 and two supplements to cover later models. The CD was as described, and was $15 including shipping from Canada.
There are other sellers, and some don't seem to know there is a base manual and supplements, so you just get the supplements if you get theirs. |

If that drawing didn't help, I'm not sure the whole manual will be any better for that particular problem.

Yes, the drawing was useful. I'm not at home right now to try again, but that shows me the orientation I thought that the clip should be in, but I can't seem to figure out how the rattle clip and the smaller pad should fit in the caliper together. Probably just my own stupidity. But, I'll keep trying. No real hurry or big deal. Just something I need to play with I guess. Thanks again. |

I figured it out. Nothing to it once I figured out the orientation of the d*** thing.
New brake pads front and rear now. Life is good. *smile* Jim, your caliper picture was what I needed to get the rattle clip in the right way. Thanks!!! |

Question though. The back brake seems to be making a slight grinding sound on hard braking with the new pads. Is that right for new pads? I assume that they need a little time to break in. Anyway, they brake great. No pulsing, shimmying, dragging or sticking. Thanks for your help! |
