Has your bike ever been stolen?

I'm just wondering how many people have actually been the victims of a theft. Post up your story if you please

Had someone try to steal mine with a flat head screwdriver. They snapped the head off in the ignition and gave up. The ruined ignition proved next to impossible to remove with power tools so I had to take the bike to a shop and have them replace it. God knows how they managed to get it off...

The bike had been stored in a car port just off the street and right outside my apartment on school campus. I believe I owned a cover at the time which was not on the bike (lesson learned there). It's just unfortunate for anyone who has to store the bike outside the cost to the potential thief versus the owner. It only took a screwdriver and a few seconds to try and steal my bike but it rendered the bike unusable and cost me a couple hundred dollars to replace the ignition.

So far I've been lucky. Considering how easy it is to steal a sport bike, its amazing that they aren't stolen more often. Four guys, pickup truck, heave ho, gone, then parts on craig's list.

If my bike was stolen, it wouldn't be mine anymore, would it?

If its titled in your name, then its still yours. So if he runs through one of those speed trap cameras at 100 mph, you'll get the bill in the mail. With his picture.

Those Lojacks are expensive. I wanted to get one but said screw it, that's what I pay insurance for. If it gets stolen I'll get a new one.

Yeah, a little bit. I was more pissed that my HEALTH insurance rates went up after that visit to the ER.

Yeah, especially because THAT bike I wanted to keep!

A year before that, though, I'd been riding my DL1000 off road with a bunch of other guys on KLXs, KLRs and DRZ400s. It was a hell of a workout, and after several hours I concludes that the Vstrom really wasn't the "do it all" bike I'd hoped it would be, and over the course of that ride decided I really needed two bikes: one for the dirt and one for commuting. Then I hit a pothole in the mud, and went off a cliff. Luckily, everyone else was willing to take pictures before helping to get the bike back on the road.

Bike was scratched up and a little bit bent on some unimportant parts, but that would make it harder to sell to buy the more appropriate bikes. I called the insurance company, they totalled it, wrote me a check, and I bought two bikes (CBR and DR350) within 24 of each other. They were perfect....until the engine exploded on the DR and I was in a much worse accident with the CBR (which paid for the Ninja).
