Someone hit my bike while parked
Employee parking lot is being repaved, so I parked on the street.
A co-worker apparently can't parallel park. She came in and apologized and we walked out to look at the damage. She backed into my bike "slightly"; aka, broke the foot peg and punched a hole the size of a quarter into her rear bumper. Tipped her over on the left side. Clutch lever and kick stand saved the engine and fairings. She knew who I was and saw my bike when she got into her car; then backed into it. She didn't need to back up at all to pull out. She accused me of being right on her bumper and not leaving her enough room. ... If she was so uncomfortable, why didn't she just come in and ask me to move? Regardless, she was cooperative. Anyway, through ebay in best and cheapest overall price, Clutch lever: $30 Right foot peg: $10 Kick Stand: $10 Fairings: $0, just some paint Total with shipping: $57; should be here on Tusday. I'll get a better feel for damage when I ride home, no leaked fluids or anything else I could see. Yay for foldable mirrors and pegs. Suggestions? |

Same thing happened to me yesterday...only it was me doing the running-over. Parked my bike behind my car and backed over it.

Well, because then you get to take the bike to a shop that you trust who will check for any additional damage, what if the frame is tweaked? A couple hundred dollars from her isn't going to cover that

Rode her home.
Fairings are definitely dented inward, like the fairing stay is bent. Left handlebar is bent at the triple clamp. Throttle is extremely sticky, thinking the release/throttle-off cable might be broken or disconnected. Clutch fell out of second and third a couple times on the ride home. Also, no foot peg sucks. |

Mechanic estimated a best-case scenario of $400.
Mirror/fairing bracket is bent inward. Right rearset is bent inward, looks like frame tabs are bent. Left front footpeg is bent downward, but that may be the left rearset bent inward as well. Left handlebar is quite bent, bent rearward at the clamp and rear/downward after the clutch lever assembly. She hit with enough impact to shatter the foot peg joint, and bend the rearset inward by half an inch on the bottom. She's definitely a country girl, a city girl could have gotten out in a quarter the space. So.... WTB Left handlebar, right rearset, left front foot peg, and possibly left rearset. |

No noticeable engine damage, but the transmission has fallen out of gear a few times; and it's not supposed to do that. If the transmission was damaged, that's a whole lot of money, time, and labor; we'd have to split the engine apart. I'll make sure everything is tightened, lubricated, and pray it isn't transmission damage from the jarring of impact.
I'm getting a foot peg in early next week, once I replace it I'll be able to tell how much it is bent. There is a fair bit of frame bracket damage, if we can't get it bent back into shape a used one is around $40. No labor estimate yet, we'll know more by Thursday of next week; need some parts to determine the damage. Throttle was fixed with some adjustments. Tally so far, days signify arrival date of purchased parts. '~$##' means estimate of non-purchased parts. Clutch lever: $30 (Tuesday) Right foot peg: $13 (Tuesday) Kick Stand: $14 (Wednesday) Fairings: $0, just some paint Left Rearset (shift lever and peg, probably): ~$50 Right Rearset (probable): ~$50 Left handlebar (clamp looked good): ~$40 Transmission: No mechanic will do it in the summer, takes too much labor. Let's hope frame bends back and transmission is fine. Keep in mind the above costs are through ebay and don't include labor. /End message to her. I'll do most of the work myself, but might as well get all shop/labor costs on insurance. |

Sounds frustrating. I'm in a good mood so I'll let you have the parts cheap maybe just shipping and a couple extra bucks, I think I have the clutch lever too, it lost some of its paint on the bar end - if that makes any difference to you.

Well, she accused me of taking advantage with my last quote of ~$147 and being partially at fault.
So, I have put together a lovely parts quote from bikebandit. This includes all bent parts with no inclusion of fairing damage. $883 retail, $709 from bikebandit. Anything I missed? |

Yup. there is a placeholder at the bottom of spreadsheet for labor. Mechanic opens in 20 minutes; I'll get a labor quote from him. He's been working on my bike since I got her two years ago, so he knows my bike.
UPDATE: Mechanic is putting together a quote for me now. |

Mechanic didn't have enough time to get a full quote together, hopefully have it all on Tuesday.
Just went back and took a ton of pictures. The parkable area is 44 feet, from my closest footpeg to beginning of angled curb. A small SUV is 14 feet. 14 ft + 5 ft (buffer) = SUV. Distance from driveway: 19 feet. Her car: ~15 feet Distance from driveway: 19+15 = 34 feet. Remaining room: 44 - 34 = 10 feet. My bag in the picture is 3 feet from my bike. |

I quite agree, hence the no-labor with ebay parts initial cost. Then she said I was taking advantage. So, $1088 for parts and labor through proper channels.

After looking at the pictures of the offending bike, I can see that it is not a bright enough color of yellow. No one could have possibly seen that bike.... shame on you!!!
Any wagers on how loud pipes could have prevented this knock over?
