Hi Folks,

I'm in the San Fransisco Bay Area (Fremont). I used to ride years ago, got my M1 again a couple of years ago (MSF) and have been pondering which bike to get since. Am quite charmed by the Ninja 250. Other choices are a KLR 650 or a Ninja 650. Have no plans to do any long distance riding but would just like something safe, sane, and fun.

Best regards,
Brian

Welcome! I'm from the same city. The 250 has more than enough power for all those fun twisties nearby. Hope to see you around on whatever you choose to get.

Welcome!
There are (surprisingly) a lot of people on here from around the Bay Area.
If you haven't gotten a bike yet, the best thing I could suggest would be to go to a dealership and sit on the different bikes (if you havent already) and see how you feel on each.

Good luck in riding and on your purchases!
And be sure to get in rides with the locals!

Best!

Thanks for the welcome!

Grayson, I love your sig: "Never trade the thrills of living for the security of existence."

I used to ride a 1974 Norton Commando Interstate, when it worked. Lovely bike to ride but horrendous reliability.

A friend at work has a ninjette that he is willing to let me try. I am tempted by the 300 but don't want to buy a new bike. Craigslist prices are all over the place. Saw a nice 2004 the other day but that is now gone.

Decisions, decisions. I appreciate everyone sharing their opinion and experience!

Having owned a ninja 300, and, 650 I'd pick the 300 any day. Yes the 650 has a lot of power, likely more than you will ever get to use on the street, but it's also 75lbs heavier. The 300 you get a fun amount of power on a light bike and you can probably get one for close to the same price of a nicer used 650.

Anything but a Kawasaki, their crap. Try a Yamasaki 250 instead

Thanks everyone.

Well, I did it. I've found a blue 2007 Ninjette locally and will be finalizing the sale tomorrow. I will update my profile when I take delivery.

I'd especially like to thank Jiggles for his post on insurance! Hopefully none of us will ever have to test our coverage.
