[RideApart] - MV Agusta Issues Recall for Brutale Dragster Models
MV Agusta Issues Recall for Brutale Dragster Models
Photo by Russell Colvin/Urban Moto Imports Word out of Varese is that MV Agusta has issued a recall for certain 2017 Brutale 800 Dragster RR models to deal with rear wheel spokes that may loosen and increase the risk of a crash. READ MORE: MV Agusta Reveals Details of the Dead Sexy 2018 F4 RC The NHTSA description of the Safety Risk reads, "If the spokes are loose or become loose, the wheel may react abnormally causing the motorcycle to wobble when riden (sic), thus increasing the risk of an accident. Description of the Cause: The superficial metal treatment of the nipples to where the rear wheel rim spokes are attached is not to specification. The designated tightening torque required to fix the spokes is therefore insufficient and may cause the spokes to become loose or free." The organization's following rules for recalls are tough but fair. “Copies of all notices, bulletins, dealer notifications, and other communications that relate to this recall, including a copy of the final owner notification letter and any subsequent owner follow-up notification letter(s), are required to be submitted to this office no later than 5 days after they are originally sent (if they are sent to more than one manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or purchaser/owner). READ MORE: MV Agusta Releases New Dragster RC Please be reminded that under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a)(3), it is illegal for a manufacturer, to sell, offer for sale, import, or introduce or deliver into interstate commerce, a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that contains a safety defect once the manufacturer has notified NHTSA about that safety defect. This prohibition does not apply once the motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment has been remedied according to the manufacturer's instructions. The information in your report suggests that MV Agusta may have been aware of this issue more than five business days before filing a report with NHTSA. Please be reminded that under Federal law, this agency is to be notified of all safety defect and/or noncompliance decisions within five business days.” The agency’s report included this description of how the replacement part differs from the recalled part, “The replacement component is marked with a green painted dot on one of the nipples located in proximity of the inflation valve.” So, one green nipple and yer good to go. Or, alternatively, order your Brutale with cast wheels. MV Agusta USA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear wheels free of charge. Owners may contact MV Agusta customer service at 1-215-781-1770. MV Agusta's number for this recall is 2813.
