2010 Ninja 250R Turn Signal Issues
As the title says, I'm having issues with my turn signals. When I bought the bike, it was from a woman who had laid the bike over, and so the rear turn signals were just hanging by the wire and the front turn signals were non-existent, among other issues including missing Fairings. So while rebuilding this bike and fixing small issues, I decided to replace all of the plastics as well. While the plastics were off, it was the best time to do the wire work and replace the turn signals, and here lies my problems..
The previous turn signals were amber LED's, so I figured I could plug and play some other LED's for a better look, but when I plug the new LED's in, all they do is flash for half a second every few seconds. While doing research, everybody had said it was a relay issue. The bike already had a 3-plug relay, part number EP34, so I replaced with with the same part but new, and it still gave me the same issues. But when I plug the old LED's back in, they work perfectly fine. I checked all the wiring leading from the fuses to the lights, and everything seems fine. So for the time being, I repaired the old ones and put them back on until I can figure out the issue. If it's important or not, when I took the Fairings off, I gave the bike a quick spray off bath to knock off the dust and dirt. Images will be in a public Google Drive to view for better references. Any help would be greatly appreciated https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...8h?usp=sharing |

Best to restore harness to factory OEM condition 1st before trying to troubleshoot signals. Put harness connectors back on harness: https://www.corsa-technic.com/item.p...category_id=49
Then use matching connector on winker lights: https://www.corsa-technic.com/item.p...category_id=49 This will let you unplug all rear-lights to test front-lights only. And once those are working, unplug front-lights to test rear-lights. Also need proper 2-pin flasher relay. Extremely likely that 3-pin relay is not wired up properly because socket for factory 2-pin relay can't accommodate 3rd pin. https://www.amazon.com/Yibid-Adjusta.../dp/B078L3CGH5 Right now, you have no idea if there's wiring problem, or issue with how relay is connected or problem with winkers themselves. By disconnecting and reconnecting one component at time, you can narrow down issues. Best troubleshooting step is to plug in factory winkers 1st to verify everything works as designed from factory, then it's simple matter to unplug one light at time and plug in aftermarket light (with matching plug-n-play connector attached). Here's write-up I did for Hondas, same procedure, but easier with Kawi because no diodes needed. https://www.600rr.net/threads/diy-co...arness.587929/ Last futzed with by DannoXYZ; May 18th, 2023 at 03:02 PM. |

1. with black-probe on blk wire, red-probe on other wire. ohms = ???? 2. with red-probe on blk wire; black-probe on other wire. ohms = ???? Then repeat measurements with your new LED lights: 3. with black-probe on blk wire, red-probe on other wire. ohms = ???? 4. with red-probe on blk wire; black-probe on other wire. ohms = ???? Numbers will tell exactly what's wrong. No need to replace perfectly-working parts with brand-new perfectly-working parts because nothing will change. Also if you replace all 4 winkers with LED, you'll need to do dash-indicator isolation mod as well. Otherwise one side will bleed over to other. https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=24500 https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=235104 https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=79621 Last futzed with by DannoXYZ; May 18th, 2023 at 05:40 PM. |
