At least you can get the most out of your newspaper now . We have been trying to find a new golden retriever or weimaraner puppy for a few weeks now, I can't wait to have a real dog again.

I tell my wife the same thing, if she's willing to feed, walk, cleanup after the dog twice a day, regardless of rain, snow, heat, blizzard.. she can have a dog.

You call right, at least for the kids. I remember when I was little my sister and I promised to look after the dog. That lasted less than a week.

Cute puppy! Make sure you crate train him/her asap if you don't want to step in doggy doo in your house. What kind of dog is it?

Is that a springer spaniel? Is it a male? If both are true you could be headed toward some really heinous butt-stink once he reaches maturity (google: springer spaniel butt stink).

Man, I've been reading up on this breed for over a year now and stink butt has never come up.

Well, it's female, so maybe it won't be an issue. However, if stink butt does emerge...well, she'll fit right in with the boys

There are no "local animal shelters" in Western PA.

When we're through our pets we either toss them in the lake or feed them to the Amish.

We do the same with old people.

HA! Thanks for coping with my ridiculous sense of humor.

The Cranberry area is actually really nice - a lot of folks are moving up from the city. It's booming. I'm just a bit north in Slippery Rock.

To answer your question - we wanted this specific breed and as a pup because we will be training her to be a therapy dog for children with Autism.

Although - if she has Stink Butt like Greg pointed out, we may need to re-purpose the pooch

This had me LOL. I thought it was a spaniel of some sort. My family's friends had 3 generations of Cocker Spaniels. They loved hunting rabbits and other small furry creatures.

Yeah - my brothers are big upland bird hunters and want me to train her to quarter and retrieve and all that jazz. We'll see....

First things first - house training.

Yeps...it will be tough to discipline a pup with that face.

My wife won't fall for it though. I've been trying to work the face over on her for years with no traction. Maybe I'm just not cute enough.

The wife is holding her own. She handles the dog all day while I'm at work.

The kids on the other hand pretty much spend their time trying to undo all of the training I've accomplished thus far.

For example - we all know pups like to jump up on people and nibble on hands. Well, I had pretty much eliminated that behavior until last weekend when my kids thought it would be fun to lie on their backs on the floor, schmear peanut butter on their faces, and let the dog have at it.

So yeah....keep the dog, lose the kids.
