Idle Fluctuation
All of a sudden my bike seems to be having an issue at idle. The idle goes to what it normally is (1500rpm) but every few seconds it jumps up by maybe about 250-400rpm while idling then heads back to normal idle (This is with the bike warmed and even after having a 20 or so mile ride). Do you think maybe the cabs are out of sync or the idle mixture needs to be adjusted? Thanks for the help much appreciated

Sort of, I only get to ride it once a week or every two weeks. It seems to be running fine otherwise. Think I should get some seafoam to make up for it being ridden less?

drain the carb bowls, drain all the fuel in the tank and refill with fresh gas and some seafoam. if you're lucky, you might be able to flush the gunk in your carbs/tank out before they've solidified and save yourself from having to pull the carbs to clean them out from, what sounds to me, partially clogged pilot jets.

@cuong-nutz I ran some seafoam through it and the idle got a bit better. But randomly sometimes the bike would idle and stabilize at a higher idle than normal. I just finished re jetting my bike and my idle is very stable now. While I was jetting I also found out that one of the idle mixture screws was turned out very little while the other was turned noticeably farther out (about 1.5 turns). That probably caused the issues I had as well. Syncing the carbs also wouldn't be a bad idea. Overall i think the issues were what kkim stated and the uneven idle mixture screws. I also checked the butteryfly operation on the carbs and they moved in sync (which somewhat verifies the carbs are in sync). Otherwise after jetting my bike its been the smoothest idling since I bought it.

I have an 05 so maybe things are different, but 1500 is too high of an idle. Once you've gone your 20 miles and bike is good and heated up, adjust to 1300 and try that. No work involved and may be problem or part of problem at this point. Be thankful at worst it's a carb clean. Luck!

1500 is where my bike works its best and is where quite a few people I have talked to have theirs idling at. My bike is fine now, I mean this was like a year a ago haha. It was still moody over the year, but fine the majority of the time. It idles very smooth now that I rejetted, messed with the idle mixture screws, and checked the carb sync.

I'll give seafoam a try. I think it's been doing this since it was new. I remember when I rejetted, the right carb was like 3 turns out while he left was close to 2.5. Some guy said it could be a float issue but he did not not elaborate more. I don't have a vacuum leak as far as I know.
My bike runs better with the idle at 1500 as well and it was what most recommended.

Yeah, I just dumped half a pint of Seafoam in a new full tank of gas. Hope it was worth the 8 dollars.

Lol, that is exactly how I felt when I got some. It took awhile but the idle eventually stopped being very erratic when I used some.
