The diagram is cool, but I'm too dumb to figure out what to hotwire. I have heard the resistor is necessary though. Not sure on what wire either.

Looking at the wiring diagram there is NOT a security circuit that would require a resistor to the igniter. So, put a toggle switch in place of the ignition switch and attach the white wire to one side and the grey wire and brown wire to the other side. I would recomend a 20 amp switch or larger.

So to really dumb this down:
Will the toggle switch have three poles or do I put the grey and brown together and then attach it ?
Electricity is not my strong point if you can't tell.

Would you be able to use the existing engine kill switch as a toggle switch with modifications?

Buy a 2 position (on/off) switch with 2 poles from Radio Shack, The white wire to one side and the other 2 wires to the remaining terminal. If you have a 3 pole switch the third other pole is probably for a light on the switch. The handle bar switch runs through a relay and wont handle the amp draw of the ignition switch. There are handle bar switches available aftermarket that will work.

If you take off all the lights and place resistors in their place, theoretically you could break a key off in the ignition leaving it in the on position. Then the existing kill switch would be your ignition toggle.

Edit: Might need to remove the 30A main fuse when not in use.

Actually you could just leave all the lights unplugged and remove the 30 amp fuse when not in use.

I must apologize for possibly steering you in the wrong direction. Today I put a 1991 engine in my 2008 race bike. Easy to do if you have a doner bike as you will need the old mounts and bolts. I also have a 1997. So here's what I found. The 1991 does not have a security circuit in the ignition switch. My 97 and 08 do, it's the grey wire coming out of the CDI box and it needs a 100 ohm resistor between it and 12 switched power. Sorry if this caused you any trouble.

Save yourself some hassle and use the Woodcraft keyswitch eliminator:

https://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/cgi-bi...on&key=43-0104

I used one of these for my SV650 racebike and they work great. No cutting of wires and the time savings for install is well worth the price IMO.
