[motorcycle.com] - Dustin “Double Duty” Meador Notches Double Top-10 Finishes Aboard
When*you’re one of the team technicians and the fill-in rider at Yamalube Westby*Racing, the nickname “Double Duty” is*not just a clever moniker, it’s also an*apt description of your team responsibilities. And, for Dustin “Double Duty”*Meador, the nickname also doubly*applies to his knack for recording consistent*top-10 finishes in the 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Roadracing*Championship, which he*did again this past weekend at VIRginia International Raceway*in Danville, VA. For the second road racing event in a row, Dustin filled in for lead*rider Josh Day, whose fractured thumb is healing well, but was not quite ready*for*him to return to racing the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 Superstock*1000 machine. Coming off his two top-10 results in the rain at New Jersey Motorsports*Park, Dustin was challenged by the tricky, 14-turn,*14-turn, 2.25-mile VIR*natural road*course, and near-perfect weather conditions that made for fast laps and a much*more frenetic race pace than New Jersey presented.*But, the talented*technician/racer acquitted himself well, qualifying 10th in class, in Saturday*afternoon’s Superpole qualifying, and then following that*up by running smooth,*consistent laps to finish in 7th position in Sunday’s Superstock 1000 Race 1*and notching a solid 8th-place result in Superstock*1000 Race 2 later in the*day on Sunday. “This has been quite an adventure for me,” Dustin said. “I got to race*the bike in the rain at New Jersey a couple weeks ago, and then, here at VIR in*the dry, and on a very technical track. So, I learned a lot about the bike,*that’s for sure. There’s no time to rest on this track. I feel a little bit*fatigued*after doing the two races today. But, I had a lot of fun, and I got to*race with a couple of guys out there. The R1 is amazing to ride. It does*everything*well.” The Yamalube/Westby*Racing team will be back in action in three weeks as the MotoAmerica*Championship travels to Road America in Elkhart Lake,*WI, on June 3 – 5. Lead rider Josh Day*will climb back aboard the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing R1 at Road America, and*resume his duties. When Dustin was asked*how he feels about handing the bike*back to Josh after his two-round adventure, he said, “We’re here to win races,*and Josh is the man to win races*for us. We’re all excited to get him back on*the bike. We’re looking forward to seeing Josh and that gold, double-zero R1 up*front again where it*belongs.” For more updates on Yamalube/Westby*Racing, including news, photos, and videos, visit*http://www.WestbyRacing.com Also, visit “Westby Racing” on*your favorite social media site.
