Transporting Motorcycle - moving to LA

So I'm gonna be moving to LA (from nor cal) next month and I want to take my ninja with me. I figured I would just put it in the 16' moving truck and put it in the front right corner, kickstand down and tied down.

After thinking about this, I dunno how well this is gonna work. i know the loading ramp hold up to 1000 lbs so that should work.

What do the knowledgeable folks here at Ninjette have to say about this? I'll gladly take any advice.

That should be fine. Just make sure it is secure and everything around it is secure. A Canyon Dancer and ratcheting tiedowns make it much easier to secure it. Just use two straps for the handlebars and two more for a section of the frame near the passenger footpegs. I've tied mine down 3 times with this method; twice on a trailer and one time in the back of a pickup.

Just make sure nothing around it is going to fall on top of or bump against the bike.

should be fine - just be sure to secure everything else as well so it doesn't fall on your bike

I have moved 2 bikes. I did not use the kickstand. I let the bike's suspension take the bumps in the road. This also means I only compress the front shocks about 30%.

downtown, next to the 110. I have grad school at USC late august.

Also, should I ride it up the ramp or pull/push it up?

Get some help from a few people and push it up. Or, if you do ride it up, have a few people holding it for stability.

Or... if you have some vacation time coming, move your stuff in the van, fly back and then ride the motorcycle to your new place!

Phil and I transported our two bikes in the back of the Uhaul from Carson City NV to Baltimore MD. Worked out great! We put all of our stuff in the front of the truck and tied the bikes down in the back. What is useful is that they have the tie rails in there so it makes it easy to tie it in. We used cargo bars to keep our stuff from falling on our bikes. To support the bikes he used a front wheel dock... I don't remember how mine traveled... I don't think the kickstand or Center stand was put down. I remember sitting on it while he attached her canyon dancer and straps...

I do remember that he did not ride the bikes into the back of the truck. We had my brother in law and nephew help us load them into the truck.. It was tough going with the Busa...man is that a heavy bike!

Good luck with the move! I must say I like Capt. idea. Riding is always the best choice!
