Bluetooth Earbuds?

I like to listen to some good music when I ride sometimes, but it's a big hassle to connect earbuds to my phone, and then run them inside my jacket to my helmet. Also, it's easy for them to get unplugged from my phone. I looked at those Sena things but they are expensive and more for taking calls than listening to music.

So I'm looking for some bluetooth earbuds that I can wear inside my helmet and listen to, prefeably while they block out some wind noise. Some earbuds are better at this than others.

Has anyone found bluetooth earbuds that do this???

You can check out Amazon to search for that Bluetooth earplug. Surely it is amazing to have it and will also help you to get calls while riding even without anyone knowing about it.

No experience with bluetooth earbuds. I've had trouble in the past with wired earbuds; they are too much of a pain in the ass to keep them in place underneath the helmet. On one of my bikes, I have wired communication/GPS/music into the helmet, but use helmet speakers rather than earbuds.

i mostly use my sena headset for music. Good quality stuff. Connects to my phone right away and can change music with the headset as well. Plus the phone calls is a plus. I can hear the music to 90+mph with ease.

I recently had to use Skull Candy earbuds.... I know your feelings on the wire issue.
I previously had a Sena on old helmet, but couldn't afford another when I got a new bike (Plus I wanted more bass) Sena SMH-10 was not good for bass.

Anyway for earbuds and bluetooth you really only have 1 option. (something like this LG - Tone Ultra Wireless Headphones - Black)
One of those that hang around neck and the earbuds come from that device.
Wire would be inside helmet only.

You still will have 2 issues
A) the buds will come out of ear putting on helmet and from head movement.
B) MUCH LESS range of outside sounds

B) is the one you should worry about -- too much isolation w/ earbuds in and makes you less aware of surroundings.
E.G Sirens, Horns, Engine/Braking sounds, ppl talking to you just to name a few.

It is B alone why I stopped using the earbuds!!!

There are cheaper options other than Sena for bluetooth, but you do get what you pay for.

You should have helmet mounted speakers, so you can hear your music and environment.

I have the Sena 20S works very well and it is really clear. Bluetooth communication isn't just for communication, you can listen to music too. I don't see how anyone can use earbuds when riding, that would be annoying. Bluetooth communicators come with a nice speaker you can fit into your helmet, so you don't have to worry about wires dangling, earbuds popping out of your ear or hurting your ear from pressure of the helmet, etc.

People have had luck modifying over head speakers and fitting them in the helmet under the cushioning. lol into that and using a Bluetooth module like one made by Nokia or jarba with it. Just google it

I've thought about buying these LG's and I still might do that.

I totally get the concerns about not hearing some outside noises with earbuds. I just worry about long term hearing damage from wind noise etc.

A note about the noise isolation. I cant hear $#!% at anything over 50 mph because of wind noise. If I'm not wearing earbuds, I'm wearing -35Db ear plugs. Ive been around sirens without hearing protection, with ear plugs and ear buds. I cant hear them much either way. I would rather have something keeping the 115+ Db noise from the wind down to a safe level than try to hear something that I cant really hear anyway. Just my $ .02

Yea, pulled out of ears by putting on helmet and I don't like things around my neck when riding.

As cool as those are... if they did work their way out of your ear and out of the helmet... it a pretty expensive loss.

They seem purdy cool, however they have no battery replacement plan. So for the cost not worth it. Plus I think they will fall out when putting your helmet on, I can't even fit apple earbuds under my helmet.

More than ear buds but I use Scala G9, work perfectly. I also use a Bell Star helmet now, very quiet fit me for too so the ride is more enjoyable with less wind noise.

Yeah I'd only but them if it was possible to return them if they didn't stay in my ear.

They say the batteries should hold an 80% charge after 500 uses. That should last several years at least.

In their response they never even give you the life of the battery, 2hrs-3hrs what? Capacity rating is great and all but if that battery goes your done for. A laptop battery if not cared for properly can die in a year.

True but that info will come out sooner or later. I'd want 2 hours at least.

I've been using SkullCandy Titans for years, but also have a Scala G9 in one helmet, courtesy of @Yakaru.
The SkullCandy provide enough isolation for me to hear plenty well, both music, exhaust and surroundings. Been looking at the LG Tones for a replace because the cables eventually crap out on the SkullCandy. But at least they've got a lifetime warranty, so replacement is cheap and easy.
If I don't have music on, I've got -39dB plugs in. I like my hearing the way it is.

I also have a Sena SMH10-11R. I've never used it for a phone call, just music and GPS (though it's nice to have the phone option if needed). I love having everything permanently installed in the helmet, as it's just there and ready to go as soon as I'm wearing it. Sena is really good about firmware updates too.

I also have an Acoustic Research ARWH1. It's like some of the items linked above - basically just a BT receiver that you plug your preferred headphones into. In this situation, it wouldn't be much different from just plugging earbuds into your phone, it would just be plugged into something else inside your jacket (which is then wirelessly linked to your phone).

Not bluetooth for me, I got my ears molded and then got custom plugs and custom plugs with speakers from http://www.plugup.com/ -- I'm quite happy. Lets me either listen to music or my GPS, protect my hearing, and still let me have situational awareness.

I alternately use Sony SBH52 clip-on Bluetooth handset and A2DP receiver and Parrot SK4000 helmet kit. The Sony earbuds are every bit as annoying as fully corded ones but the handset function keeps me from taking my phablet out all the time (CallerID, track information, text messages, and playback controls with an OLED screen). It also works like a tiny BT speaker. It's really made for Android phones (included with the 7" Xperia Z Ultra) so it doesn't work well for, say, an iPhone (no way to activate Siri/voice control, NFC doesn't work, speaker is worse than iPhone 6 Plus but using it as a remote will steal the audio any time you Pause/Play).

The Parrot's wireless handlebar remote sounds nice but seems to be useless on our bikes. I think something in the electrical system interferes and the range is reduced such that it might as well be on your helmet with the receiver puck. At least then you wouldn't have to lean inches away from your handlebar and take your eyes off the road! I could never get it loud enough for Interstate riding or use with earplugs even though many other people say that it is more than loud enough. I am a little hard of hearing though.

LG Tone seems like the best option to me. I bought the Sony SBH52 specifically as an alternative to LG Tone since I thought the CallerID function and remote would be very useful (especially with gloved hands) after my Sony Ericsson MBW-150 Music Edition smartwatch finally died but now I have a Pebble Steel for that.

Well they did freaking terrible. I had used them twice for short rides with no problems but when I went to put them on for this long ride the left side ear bud would not work at all, no sound period.

Thankfully Amazon is great about refunds. I guess this is what I get for buying the cheapest ones I could find.

One of these (Outdoor Gear Adapt bluetooth adapter)

and a pair of these (Plugup S-plug earbuds)

are close to perfect for me.

I can't say enough good things about those earbuds. Great noise isolation, great audio (which you can play quiet because the buds isolate so well), and they don't stick out AT ALL so there's no pressure from your helmet.

If I want to I can stick the BT adapter inside my helmet chin bar (patch of velcro) and control it with with my lower lip... weird, yeah, but it works.

Usually I don't bother with that. The BT adapter clips nicely onto the neck of my jacket.

I only use BT when also using my phone for navigation and such. Phone is clamped to the upper triple. Waze is great for alerting me to the presence of Blue Clad Enforcers of the Law. Best nav app I've found for motorcycle use is CoPilot, because you can display turn-by-turn directions instead of maps.

For my commute, I just stick an iPod nano in my jacket pocket and plug the buds into it. Simple, easy, works great.

I've always been able to get turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps and Apple Maps built in to Apple and Android phones. I often take a screenshot and set it as the lock screen wallpaper/background so I can wake the phone with my gloved hand and see my directions. I take the screenshot before car rides too in case I have a signal or battery issue.

No, I mean super-large, clear cues for each turn that update as you ride.

Reading a tiny list of directions on a phone screen while riding?

Obviously, I familiarize myself and scroll to the end (the part I don't know) before taking the screenshot, then it is there *if* I need it and I will still pull over if I have to. No reason to show all the steps telling me how to pull out of my own neighborhood, of course. GPS and setting the screen to "Always On" will kill your battery FAST!

Got power wired to the bike fer dat. Battery Tender harness goes to the tail (permanent). Plug-in USB power adapter, which gets attached only when I'll be using the phone. 10-foot USB-Lightning cable (also permanently mounted) goes from the tail up to the front of the bike. End has a waterproof cap and gets tucked out of the way.

I could have gotten fancy and done a switched power thing, but I use it so seldom it wasn't worth the trouble.

I rarely use GPS at all... it atrophies your brain. The only time is when I'm trying to get somewhere specific and I haven't a clue how to do it.

Hmm these seem to get good reviews. Pricey though. Maybe I need to save up rather than looking for the cheap way out

Buy quality, buy it once, move on.

Buy crap, buy more crap, buy yet more crap, rinse and repeat until you figure out that you should have sucked it up and bought the good stuff the first time around.

I have no problem spending money. I HATE wasting money.

I think that the Sony SBH52 I mentioned is similar enough to the Outdoor Gear Adapt that I should compare them. The SBH52 is also splashproof and can be used in the rain. It comes with very short earbuds so that it can be clipped to your shirt collar or something but they are still long enough to be annoying.

It also has two built-in speakers when you want to detach your headphone/earbud cable (loudspeaker and an earpiece speaker). It works as a Bluetooth telephone handset not unlike the goofy ones ThinkGeek and others sell except that the display lets it functionally replace some phones for most call functions (keep that phablet stowed).

On iOS the display is only useful for Caller ID and music playback info. On Android devices it can browse music and contacts. Unfortunately, voice control is Android-only as well so it has no way to place a call on iOS (not even redial) and no way to activate Siri, so you are going to have to use something else to place the call (ex: reach in your pocket and hold Home button). Of course, you can answer a call with it on both platforms, but that big button is useless on iOS when the phone isn't ringing. Apple doesn't do NFC pairing but it will still pair with an Apple device the traditional way.

I got mine around when I was ditching my Note 3 but I played around with it on my older Note II and my new iPhone 6 Plus. I found that it really helped conserve battery life by not turning on that gigantic screen every time I wanted to change tracks or see what was playing. I've used it sparingly since getting my Pebble and Pebble Steel, but I think I might get some of those earbuds you suggested and pair them with it since they don't protrude from your ears as much. The clip is similar to an iPod Shuffle and is more suited to collars and pockets than bars or cables. I suggest wearing it inside your shirt pocket with the clip hanging out because it's easy to brush it off your shirt when taking off a seat belt or something.

With my iPhone 6 Plus I seem to have range issues when using it on the opposite side of my body from where the phone is. I don't think the Note II had the same issue. I didn't test it enough with the Note 3 to know if it did. Sony includes it with the Xperia Z Ultra, so it better have a good connection with that phone's Bluetooth hardware.

I haven't used the FM radio function much because I prefer my news and traffic from the TuneIn Radio app (I can skip back/forward through the buffer, DVR-style). It does support RDS for track data and such over-the-air.
