Rhode Island Flooding
3 pictures near my house. The water in the road by the baseball fields (if you can tell they are baseball fields) were not passable by cars, and have lit up the check engine light on my jeep. Hoping when it dries out the light goes out. But that is minor as many houses have water running right through the yards and above the foundations.

Looking forward to riding. Supposed to be in 70s thurs thru weekend. Not sure how roads are going to be though - water will still be running a couple days, lots of dirt and rocks washed into roads, and some roads breaking up.

Yeah thats what they say. Wife and one child have school cancelled. Other child still has school in a town where 300 houses have been evacuated, many roads closed, overflowing sewage plant, and shelter opened. Can't figure out why at the moment he still has school.

They eventually said school was closed, hours after telling people to leave their houses. Actually haven't sent him to school in 2 days as he's been helping my inlaws who have a flooded cellar.

Greg, the riding season is long enough to not ride untill all the roads are clear of water and debris. It might be fine where you live but not where you are riding to. Take the boat out and leave the bike at home.
Another day in paradise here; not a cloud in the sky and temperatures in the high 70s.

Yea the Raritan river just about crested the other day here at school. All the beer cans and solo cups in the street have blocked drains so we had some minor flooding by my apartment. Thanks for reminding us CC...my parents send me texts daily to remind me how nice Florida is now...supposed to be 77 here in central Jersey tomorrow though

I tend to worry more about what I can`t see in these conditions. After the last rainstorm, a woman reported a "deep pothole" that she hit with her car. Minutes later a 30` deep sinkhole developed across both lanes of the road big enough to swallow an 18 Wheeler. Happened in Rockland. That woman was some lucky.

Greg, I saw the Warwick Mall on the news. Water over the top of parked cars. Who would park in a lot with deep water? Some people!

Newspaper says worst flooding in 200 years. Imagine 200 years ago, no tv, you wouldn't even know that 95 was shut down.

Greg, sorry to hear about the flooding. It is amazing how much damage water can do in such a short time. I see a lot of flooding in the surrounding towns. I have a creek in my back yard that turns into Big water a few times a year. House and top yard is above flood zone but never want to leave anything down there, it would be gone.
Sounds like your 'eep sucked in some water. Bummer

Happy to say 6 plugs, 1 coil and 1 filter and jeep is good. Many people ßtill flooded, mall closed, and bridge on verge of failing. Saw some bikes today as sun is out.

The morning paper said that the Rockland sinkhole is 65` deep and will cost $250,000 to repair. The repair is expected to take two weeks. I am still debating if I should grow rice or cranberries in my yard.

Thanks. Things looking pretty good today. Rode bike to work and just came across a couple wet spots. some roads still closed though. Inlaws lost how water heater, parents pool is iffy at the moment as the underground water is causing the liner to be distorted, maybe once ground water goes away pool water pressure will put the liner back in place.

Unexpected email from my bike insurance (Progressive):
Dear GREGORY, We hope that you and your family are safe from the flooding in your area. We recognize you may have a lot to deal with right now and the last thing you should have to worry about is your vehicle insurance. If you're concerned about maintaining your coverage or need extra time to make a payment, please contact us at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE (1-800-776-4737). We appreciate your business and are always here for you, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Thank you and stay safe. I was just telling Yoda, roads range from a bit of sand/stone, to small potholes, to big potholes and side of road missing, to road closed due to flooding or extreme erosion. Have to take each corner a bit more cautiously, and especially careful at night. Rode home in the dark after helping in-law's throw out most of their basement stuff and pump water out, and really needed to pay close attention to the road. |

I got the same email from Progressive; pretty cool of them. Luckily, the roads up in Providence are in good shape - the few detours we have are quick and life's mostly back to normal.
I feel for the folks that are still underwater, though - flood insurance is very much an afterthought for everyone except those in Hurricane flood plains. |
