Funniest thing just happened to me...

Before I went to work I did the t-clocks and noticed I needed some gas, but I figured since the little gas left would take me there I opted to just fill the tank when I get off. After work, getting home was the only thing in my mind, so I forgot and the bike ended up dying on me at a stoplight..ah ah..

luckily I was in between 2 gas stations. I walked the bike to the station, and filled it up..

Lesson learned.

my 2cents: You're not really making progress as a newbie if your bike doesn't die on you once..

Its happened to me three times, lol. And i've had to push my bike 4 miles once.

yea, I had to walk mine across the street.. not fun at all. I'm glad it was late night.. not much traffic.

I think I remembered reading somewhere that if you shake the bike side to side you get just a little more gas to at least a few miles. Never had to actually test that though.

u do not need fuel gauge.. Just calculate your mpg and fill up when trip meter tells you to

Yeah, I filled up and set the trip and I'm going to keep note of when the fuel light comes on. What's fairly annoying is I can only view a clock or trip... not both. Miss my koso

To the OP - did you try flipping the petcock to reserve? You should have had another couple miles of fuel left. Once you fill up, make sure to switch it back to ON, so you have that reserve amount left the next time.

I thought about that, but since i was at walking distance to the station I decided to just fill it up.

I don't know how many times I've had to switch to reserve on the fly when commuting to work (No gauge on the Pre Gen). Seems like it always did it on the freeway...the furthest I've gone on reserve is 10 miles and I was sweating bullets..lol.

Definitely use the reserve function of the tank. There's 0.75 gallons on reserve. Even if you cut that in half to account for the hump cutting off access to half of it, that's still 15-20 miles conservatively.

The trick comes for those of us who have an EFI conversion kit. We don't have a reserve tank.

I got the version that has the 2.5 gallon reserve which gives out about 45 miles before refueling which was a life saver since I got lost one time without any gas station in sight. Ever since then I never let my low fuel indicator light up.

No reserve on mine, had to gun it on fumes once to make it up the hill to the gas station, praying, praying...made it only to find that my tank still had some gas in it according to the amount I put in....hmm.

Hmm.... don't you have a reserve on the tank? Years ago, I was going 70 on the interstate when the bike started sputtering... and had that sinking feeling when I realized it was already on reserve from the last time I'd filled it up.

or you could set the trip odometer and get gas by the mileage.

Generally, if you think you might need gas or have to calculate how many miles you think you can go, just get gas now.

Pro tip: If you go to a gas station, don't remove your helmet AND keep one hand in your pocket with your index finger pushing against the inside front of your jacket, you can get gas, smokes and lotto tickets for FREE!

i can't count how many time's i've run out of gas. when none of your bikes have gas gauges, it becomes an unfortunately frequent occurance.

I have no dashboard on my bike besides a tachmeter. I ran out of gas on track 3 times now

Once I had to wait for the truck. 2 times I ran out on front straight so one of those times I just rolled in the pits and the second I just rode into dirt turned it and did the walk of shame for 10 mins

SUCKS to walk in full race suit, helmet, on the dirt, and under the scorching sun.

Since then I made it a habit to fill it back up after the 12pm session.

Next time do what i do and turn the petcock back to main tank when you park at work. Sgall out in the parking lot and femeber to get gas.

To everyone who mentions switching to reserve... The reason I ddnt do that is because I was right across from 2 gas stations, and I knew if I ddnt put the gas then I probably wouldn't remember to do it the next day...

You could have switched to reserve to go to the gas station lol. For me, switching to reserve was equivalent to finding a gas station ASAP.
