47T Rear with 106 Links?

Hi guys,

I just installed a new chain and sprockets (14/45 and 106 links). It was a tight fit! I'm at the very front of the adjustment marks. I was considering trying a 47T rear, but I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to get the chain over it. Does anyone have a 14/47 setup with 106 links, or did you have to go to 108?

Thanks,

I run 14/47 with 106 links in my chain. It was tight, then I raised the tail of my bike and it gave me some slack to play with. I like the gearing for short twisty trips, but it's way low for the freeway. Next time I go to the track I'll also likely go back to 14/45 because while I had lots of torque through the corners, I was shifting like mad to keep from bouncing off the limiter constantly. I was forced to grab an upshift during quick transitions, and that really made it hard to be smooth, not to mention it kept me on my toes with my coordination.

If you run a 90 profile rear, go with 14/47. If you run an 80 profile rear, stick with the 14/45. Also, a chain with 108 links would definitely make life easier with the 14/47

How about going down to a 13 in the front? The ratio is pretty close. Anyone riding a 13/45?

That's a very tight turn for the chain to make..!!

I'm curious as to why folks want to gear down the 250 Ninja. I hated how revvy it was with the stock 15/45....it feels so much nicer to ride now on the 15/41 gearing.

I commute 5 days a week for 25 miles each way. I just wanted something more relaxing, and I'm not complaining about the extra mpg either.

the 250 is pretty gutless as bikes go, so raising the gearing just makes it feel more gutless. Lowering the gearing makes it a little quicker I also commute 20 miles each direction as often as I can, but not on the freeways. The bike is still good fun, and still tops out before it hits the limiter, so it's not like my gearing is TOO low. I have not noticed any substancial difference in mileage from just the gearing. The carbs have WAY more impact on my mileage.

Raising gearing by a lot for commuting is killing what little torque the 250 has.

Ps, stock is 14/45. 15/41 is really really high compared to stock. Are you having to slip your clutch excessively at stoplights?

Gutless is one way of describing it.

Everythng on this bike happens in slow motion, in comparison tot he Gixxer 750 and 955i Daytona I owned before this.

To be honest, I didn't find that the taller gearing lowered the response that the bike has. I can hold gears for longer, and always have the option to drop a cog if I need to ge the bike to hustle.

To each their own....

Not even close to having to. 1st gear on 14/45 is useless, I can't imagine how bad it is on lower gearing. You wouldn't even need 1st gear on 14/47....you could start in 2nd.

@Jim Moore would you be interested in buying my 47T rear sprocket? I'm thinking about going up in gearing again because my fuel injection pulls better in the mid range without losing top end, so higher gearing to keep me a little less busy on twisties should still pull fine. There's like 1000 miles on it (the teeth look brand new still, lots of life left) and its great to have that extra pep! I was just a little busy with shifting at mid-o

Anyhow, pm me and we can work something out. I'm thinking $20 + shipping but let me know what you're thinking. Just figured we could work something out since you've expressed interest in going with lower gearing and I can offer you a price that's lower than new.

Yes sir. It is a JTR486.47 (steel, not that wimpy aluminum). Works with a 520 chain.
