Uhh...My cams do not fit?
Hello all,
Doing a valve adjustment on an 08'. Engine as at second piston TDC, I put the cams in the correct position position with the white marks facing one another...and the intake cam does not fit as well as the exhaust one. The cam lobes are hitting the tops of the valve lifters. It's most evident when you try to place the cam caps on. The exhaust one fits perfectly with minimal fuss..it just drops into position, almost flush with the engine without having to tighten the screws. The intake cam cap does not fit flush no matter how hard I try to push down. This seems to be because the cam is lifted slightly from all four lobes contacting the valve lifters. Is this normal? Is this the reason for the particular tightening pattern of the screws the manual recommends? I'd hate to damage the dowel pins. I tried doing it by the manual, with the white marks facing away from each other, with the correct number of chain pins between them, and the same thing happens (which would be expected since it's just 180 degrees in cam position). But this time, for the exhaust cam! |

stick your finger in the hole where the CCT went and push the chain guide in. if you tighten everything down like that you can get it stuck out of position until you put the cct in and then it scratches the chain and sprocket when you force it back into place.

TDC for piston #2 means that the cams of cylinder #2 should not be touching the valves (as the combustion of the fuel is happening and nothing should be open at there). Whatever is happening with other cylinder is none of your business.
