Pulled over for "screaming down 3rd street"

Lol so Today (tonight) I got pulled because I was "screaming down 3rd street" and I was for sure "going faster than 25 mph" LOL the entire time I was in first gear... lmao and I recorded it on my helmet cam. No ticket or anything. The mgp growler just rips...

I dont feel like posting up the video. but he didnt clock me at anything, becuase he wasn't clocking at all. But "because I was screaming, i was going way over 25"

He tried to get me to admit I was going way over 25, i still don't think I was so I never admitted any guilt.

I saw the flashes so I honked at my buddy in front of me because I have my permit, so I ride with him. I got off the bike..

" I need your license"

Me "Okay it's in here though, (points to rear seat, takes out permit) I actually have my permit right now"

"You have a permit?!? and you were screaming down 3rd?!?"

Me "I wasnt going that fast, my exhaust is just loud"

and then he was saying how a ton of people were complaining about people flying down that street. and again tried to get me to just admit I was flying, because he knew I was by the sound. he wanted to make sure i was "legit"

But anyway, if i'm in fist gear and doing 20 mph, the bike sounds like its going 100. That's just the way it is with the revs and that exhaust

not surprised you're getting 20mpg when you cruise around In 1st like that

For real though; get a smaller perforated tube, wrap it in steel wool, and quiet that sucker down. As you proved, all its doing is getting you more attention from the 5-0

if you were in 1st gear i doubt you were doing much over 25... you weren't doing anything wrong. would love to see the video. if he had said exhibition of speed thats one thing. but trying to pin you on something based purely on sound really pisses me off. i have a stupid loud exhaust as well (i have a yoshi) and the fuzz in the hills always give me **** for it. no clock, no pace, no visual assessment, no nothing but them hearing the bike, and they assume because i shift a lot that i'm speeding and give me **** for it. i want to carry around a little information booklet designed specifically for misinformed police like that explaining what a squid is, what the difference between bike sizes is, what is actually dangerous riding and what is riding that simply looks dangerous because you dont know what they are doing but in fact is safe. people see me hang off the bike... its habit, i do it unconciously, but they see it and think i'm flying out of control. its just misinformation.

wrap it in steel wool,
please don't suggest this to anyone who might not know better than to actually do it.

Gasoline is a hydrocarbon molecule. About 12% of the exhaust product gas from gasoline combustion is water vapor. Steel wool is a very low-grade steel, almost the same a basic iron, and it rapidly turns into rust in the presence of any water or water vapor.

Putting steel wool in your exhaust is a very bad idea.

Where i live the local police are cracking down on motorcycles and cars that have exhaust systems over a decible limit. Also cars with Subs are getting tickets for excessive noise after 11 now.

They are mainly chasing after harley's around here because people here like the straight pipe sound.

I'd still say give 2nd a try...or even third....1st gets pretty jerky after like 10 mph and the revs are up there. No point in it really.

Are most police officers just completely ignorant about motorcycles?

My Girlfriend was visiting her sister at work for a few hours about a month ago. As she was leaving another red bike pulled into the same parking lot she was leaving. A few blocks later she was pulled over by some agitated police officers telling her a police helicopter had followed her for the past 30 minutes weaving in and out of traffic and going 130 mph on the freeway. It took them 30 minutes of her telling them it was not her that they finally believed here and the helicopter found the person they were looking for.

All I could think of was her on the freeway on the little 250 with the tach redlined and her still only going 90. She was shaken up, but I wanted to laugh when I heard it. I'd pay any bike cop $100 to get her little 250 up to 130 mph. It's 100% stock 2012.

So your advice is to rev the heck out of the engine and along with it, make tons of noise....for more power when you're going from stop sign to stop sign?

Not exactly. They recommend using a small roll of steel wool to contain the actual packing material.

yeah, by somebody who doesn't understand that it would take about 1 day for that steel wool to begin turning into a nasty, rusty mess inside the exhaust. Once again, 12% of gasoline combustion byproduct is water vapor.

In Alabama, where I grew up, steel wool would rust just sitting on the shelf in my Dad's shop if you didn't seal it up tight. It always pissed him off when he found the steel wool he needed for a job all rusted up into a brown wad because his kids had left it open to the humid Alabama atmosphere.

Maybe the problem here is people using the term "steel wool" the same way they use the term "kleenex". So they don't really mean actual hardware store steel wool, instead they mean "some sort of highly engineered, heat resistant, rust-proof, fuel resistant material that's custom designed to be used as baffling material in motorcycle exhausts".

Maybe that's its the Kleenex effect

but I'm confused, wouldn't using a little steel wool like that not be a huge deal because it would just get blown out of the can with the exhaust as it rusted (similar to what packing does)? Also, isn't a large portion of regular air also water vapor? Steel wool rusts here too just by leaving it out. Isn't the exhaust hot enough to dry everything in the can? I'm just a little confused how that's such a terrible thing to use a little of in your exhaust.
