Signals on mirrors

I was looking for those little convex mirrors today, but could only find 2" ones, which seem pretty big for our tiny mirrors. Then I saw this gem at autozone (image below).... I have been wanting to add integrated mirrors, or signals to my existing mirrors so this was a welcomed detour to my mirror search (probably couldn't do both using these). These wouldn't replace my stock signals, but be in addition to them for added visibility.

When I got these home and held them up to the mirror, I started to think twice about them and may return it because they are pretty big for motorcycles. The more I think about it, I don't need a big arrow.... even a round marker light will work. Theoretically they could be stuck to the front of the mirrors (wouldn't be seen from rear in this configuration), BUT one would need to find them in orange, since you can't have a red light facing forward. The angle on the front of our mirror housings are also not at an ideal viewing angle.

I'm not sure if I would need to add resistance for these units if I did use them.... they likely already have resisters internally since they are being sold for cages.

if you mount something like that, how are you going to run the wire? down the side? no no...that'd look tacky. Get something like Gixxer mirrors...they're cheap on ebay and looks a lot better I think.

Will the bolts line up on those? I have seen many ask on other boards, and no real answer to that.

Prob not going to line up...so you'll have to drill a couple holes to fit. They'll be under the base of the mirror so once it's mounted, the base will cover them and they won't be visible.

Thanks!

Do you know if these are LED signals (GIXER integrated mirrors)? I plan on wiring them in as an additional signal, rather than replacing the stock signals, so if they are and the original load remains.... am I OK without added resistors?

THe Gixxer mirror is bulb type (1156). You can buy a 1156 style LED bulb and replace them if you like or you can use then as is. You can also put flushies in the stock signal location once you got those signal mirrors.

Kinda like this CBR of mine.

Those integrated mirrors on your CBR look fantastic! I like them more than the gixer mirrors, and would prefer adding those if I had the choice.

Perhaps if I did that I might set-up my stock signals to work as running lights/signals and the mirrors as signals only.
I'm not sure how to do that (separating functions), probably with a Signal Dynamics module, but I'm sure it can be done.

Yeah I used to have Gixxer mirror but I took it off to replace with those 2008 1krr mirrors....3 times the cost of Gixxer mirror but you're right, they do look better.

Shrink, Those CBR mirrors would look great on the Ninja. Then you could use the spot the directionals were for a set of Driving/Fog lamps. PIAA makes a great set which is only 2" in diameter. I`ll consider that mod for the future.

For the CBR mirrors, when I look up the parts, the "assemblies" that are listed for ~ $68 each..... do these include the integrated blinkers inside, or is it just the housing? The way they have them drawn don't make this clear to me, and I couldn't see where you could get the blinker parts at all for the front. (it seems all the stores use the same db with the same pictures)

^^ yeah I've seen that..it doesn't look as good to me.

Headshrink: no you need to add all the parts up. All little parts costs to make a complete mirror will costs about 160 so two mirros will run you about $320. Gixxer mirror is a cheaper alternatives if you're short on cash. It will run about $100 brand new. It looks real good too.

Here is the list if you want to go the CBR route.

11359-KSV-J10 MAT, L. FR. COVER (Honda Code 8893075) (BOTH SIDES) $1.00 2 $2.00

Hmmmm, I actually haven't seen these installed. I have seen the mirrors on ebay, but wondered what they looked like installed. I did read somewhere that they were "virtually useless" due to excessive vibration. If anyone has direct knowledge of this and can either confirm or deny, please do so.

LOL...gotta pay to play. That CBR, I bought for 9K, put in about 10K in parts. I installed everything so labor is free
The 250, I bought for 4.3K, put in like 4.5K in parts...labor again is free I actually made a thread tallied up all the costs of that 250 in the Kawiforum somewhere...I think it came out to around 8.7K or something like that.

I really want mirrors like these . But where they mount to the body on your CBR and where there bolt on the ninja are at different angles.
Do the arms have that much adjustabilty to work for our bikes?

you will probably have to find a solid piece of black plastic and grind it down to make an adaptor...so the gixxer mirror will mount to the adaptor and that connects to the original 250's mounts.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the stock mirror "stalks" with the above mirror without destroying either? I was thinking about wanting the improved wind and vibration resistance....

I did some searching and I believe I have the same mirrors but in black. They can be fitted to work with the stock mirror mount, but you will need to sand it down a bit, also you need to drill a hole in the middle of the stock mount for the wires. If you are going to use the the mounts that came with the new mirrors you will need to buy longer nuts and bolts to mount it, the ones that came with it is too short. I haven't actually installed it yet just waiting to get a heat gun so I can mold the plastic to straighten it up a bit just the way I want it, the way the stalk is angled is just terrible, you can't see anything behind when fitted. I can post pics if requested. This is where I bought mine, he also sells it in carbon fiber just like the one above.

Just to clarify.... do you need to drill through the length of the origional stalk itself (sounds difficult), or just the baseplate/mount (much easier) for the wires?

just the base plate mount. I still gotta straighten it out though, I got a friend that has a heat gun and knows how to work with plastic so I asked him to do it for me. might get it done by the weekend. I'll post pics soon. Also newenough.com has some mirrors with signal lights that look the same as the ones I got off ebay but they are selling it for $95, they are similar but the newenough ones has a different stalk I believe.

I used the factory brackets on the aftermarket mirrors and that helped with vibration.
