I'm in Catonsville. My folks live in Columbia right near Merriweather and my lady friend works in Elkridge, so I'm usually running around those areas when I'm off(like today). I'll be heading out to Columbia in a bit after I finish watching the rebroadcast of the superbikes in Silverstone.

Hmm...I passed a black 250 a couple weeks ago in Columbia and I thought it was another forum member but he did not say it was...was in the area of Rt 175/108 (near Costco & Restaurant entrance.)
Anyhow, okay sounds like you're all up in my neck of the woods so will keep my eyes open for ya. I work by Merriweather and live in Elkridge so I'm surprised I haven't seen you around sooner or more often?

I didn't realize it went up that far?
Yup! Sure, do! I don't usually ride my bike to work though. If you were in the west parking garage a few weeks ago you drove past my car. LOL I don't either. I tried to search for reviews but didn't really come across much.

I'm a noob right in DC (in NoMA right near ny ave and florida av). I'm planning to do a bit of practicing in my quieter residential streets and the hilly curvy cemetery down the street. Anyone have any suggests for good places to ride that I can get to without having to deal too much traffic (especially the beltway) until I'm a little more comfortable with the bike?
Thanks! |

Hi BlueHair - You might try west of where you are. You can take Mass. Ave west across to Gtown, via P or Q Street bridge(s), then up to R St., then south a block to Reservoir Road, all the way over to MacArthur Boulevard, then Left on Arizona Ave takes you to Chain Bridge.
So far you have avoided a lot of heavy traffic where you could be picked off. Across Chain Bridge you're on Glebe Road. Turn right on Chesterbrook Road you end up on the back roads of McLean. Ride past there, the next light is Williamsburg Blvd. You're good to go for awhile there. You will be riding west toward Falls Church. Earlier, just up the hill from Chain Bridge take the turn off to Military Road it takes you all the way to a fork at Nellie Custis Drive. Take the left fork to Nellie Custis Dr. It t-bones at Lorcum Lane. Turn left go up the hill to the light. Through there is Spout Run Parkway, turn left. Ride along and you will merge onto the George Washington Parkway. Head south to Old Town. Take a break at the water side. You can head south to Mt Vernon, or go back north and take 14th St bridge back home (that's a heavy duty route) or keep going back north on GWP, after Key Bridge stay on the left. Fork left to return north on Spout Run Pkway. Turn right on Lorcum Ln. Turn right on Nellie Custis, merge right onto Military Road go north to Chain Bridge and go into DC east the way you came. In VA watch the speed limits. Ride like the car people can't see you. This movie shows some of the ride in McLean, the GWP and Old Town. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frbejxkciw4 Cheers, Bill |

Definitely ease your way into it. I think city riding is a great way to learn reflexes. I recommend shadowing your brake and clutch in the city at least (one finger) while you ride. Cuts down on your reaction time and you are always ready. Just stay loose, put yourself in good position to be visible, expect that people don't see you, and get use to looking inside other cars and behind you. Ironically, the people who seem the craziest are the DC taxis and the bridge & tunnel folks coming from NoVA and MD. Usually, the DC license plates are use to motorcycles and scooters.

Well, I'd still like a chance to ride with you all, but I sold my ninja a few days ago. I will be picking up a Daytona 675 tomorrow though, so as soon as I get acclimated to the new bike, let's ride.
Meet up somewhere around Howard county since a lot of newer members seem to be from around there? |

Went riding last weekend with my husband, @Old Lemon, @DennyV and a couple friends of ours. Was only supposed to be about 6 of us. We waited for the last one in Glen Burnie to join us, and he was taking forever...but apparently, he invited some friends, who invited friends, who invited more friends...you get the picture. There was 21 of of us by the time we were ready to roll. Anyhow, here's "Part 1" of the day's ride...half of us were ready to leave and the other half joined us later. Some of these guys were cray to keep up with on our 250s. @DennyV was the newest of the group so it gave him good experience and he kept up pretty good Anyhow, here's the vid. Oh, there's no sound because YouTube changed their settings and is now lame.
Um, I just realized I'm not sure how to embed the video. We also rode 'roughly' 180 miles round trip. We rode from Glen Burnie, MD to just inside the PA line. http://youtu.be/l9TpNvNP52s
