Stalling on incline
Basically went to go for the first ride on my bike for the season today, and it kept stalling out on me.
I started it right up first try, no choke, slight throttle. Increased the throttle/choke and let it idle for a few minutes. Turned the choke off and continued to let it idle while I geared up. Put it into gear, started going. Went about 10 feet, then started going up the hill of my driveway and it stalled out midway with decent throttle probably going 5 mph or so. Happened 2 or so more times at various points on the two hills exiting my house, so I had to park it and take my car. My first thought is that I need to clean the carbs. It was sitting for the most part since August while I was at school, but my dad occasionally fired it up, and took it for a few short rides over the coarse of the school year. Any ideas on why it would start fine, idle fine, ride fine, then cut out on a hill? Gas gauge read over 1/2 tank. I'm going to check into it more tomorrow. |

Give it around 7k rpms and then be sure to maintain it. Shouldnt stall then....
My driveway does the same thing to me.

Hold the throttle at 7,000rpm and use only the clutch to regulate your speed.

Bad/contaminated gas would be my best guess as well. Engine cutting off when under load is a classic sign of water in the tank. If I were you I'd empty the gas tank, drain the float bowls, pour an entire bottle of Seafoam into the gas tank, slosh it around to pick up some of the water left (if you don't have time to wait till fully dry). Connect the gas tank to the carbs and pour some more Seafoam and turn the petcock to PRI, then drain the float bowls again (cleaning up the carbs). After that, put fresh gas in and RIDE DAT MOFO!
Note that I refer to Seafoam more than once, that sh!t, I stake my life on! It works! Good luck bud |

What are the actual uses for seafoam and do you have to take it out of wherever you pur it into after use?

Let it warm up even longer today and it ran fine, no problems whatsoever. I did have some sta-bil in the gas, so that could be it. I know some people have bad experience with stabil, but I had no problems last season, and other than that one morning, seems to be okay now.
I just wish we had the fuel injected model here in the states. |
