Gamers
Who is a gamer here? I'm not hard core by any means, but I do like to play some. I just got my very first "new" game in about 2 years.
I picked up Cyberpunk 2077. I hope it is good! Sitting at 3.6GB out of 59GB of game to download. I hope it speeds up because this is annoyingly slow. lol

I'm technically a reformed(?) Gamer addict. Definitely helped in destroying my marriage. So I have learned to really limit it in life. Whats funny, is because now I see what my addiction was, I can step back, and not follow gaming hype/trends/PC upgrades to get all excited about.( and see how much time I really wasted, restraint free...)
I was/am still big, on the PC stuff. Mostly, combat flight simulators, and mil-sim combat. ( Basically Armed assault, II, III) I'm a geek about it though. had a sit-in Akers Barnes cockpit, flight controls, etc. If I cant use Track-IR ( head based movement...for in game head turning) I don't play it. So that means any "typical" FPS games are out. But for some reason windows 10, cant play any of my old ARMA games. Except for ARMA III, and another game called "Squad" ( which also has native support for Track-IR) but my PC is missing something as both CTD. So.....my go to game as of now, is EVE online. A point and click " spreadsheets in space" with ship combat, mining, real world markketing, and battles can cost the equivelent of 100s of thousands lost. Im the same way for the past 10-ish years. I'll buy a game every couple of years. ( and it's usually been out, at least 2 years before I pick it up.) Last console game I enjoyed, was The last Of Us, on PSIII. At lunch. Sorry for run- on. Lol |

I worked at this game-company for couple years. What better than getting paid to play with games!!! Had really good combination of 3D visuals with matching tactile feedback. Along with 3D sound and even smell!
Imagine feeling the tick-tick-tick under your feet of train running over railroad joints. Feel the cold metal doorknobs as you open actual heavy doors. Open squeaky and rusty file-cabinet drawers... Feel blasting heat as you walk past furnace. When you're walking plank across building-tops, it actually wobbles due to bolt-heads screwed in underneath. You actually see it tilt back and forth to match what your feet feels... Trick is to match what you see with what you feel, otherwise you end up with nausea and people falling over (most VR games will cause this). When you go up & down elevators, you're actually on platform that moves up and down for realistic sensations. When the train slows, platform you're standing on actually tilts so your ears feel correct deceleration to what your brain is seeing. Same with helicopter turning & banking. Gun has recoil kickback and that force actually changes depending upon which of 5 guns you select, along with sound off-course (I actually added 1.5-lbs of lead weight inside gun). Our first retail location was featuring Arizona Sunshine in Orlando and it was blast! Everyone loved it (especially cops), where else can you fire off M16s full-auto and shoot zombies! I wanted to have chunks of flesh and blood fly off and hit people, but for liability reasons, they turned down anything that would touch players.

yeah, like a LOT of tech-startups here, +99% go under. They may have great ideas and innovative new products, but that's NOT what makes for success. It's good old fashioned management with financial controls, HR procedures, staff training, etc.
Well, now I'm setting up X-Plane simulator to practice for getting my pilot license! |

I keep forgetting about X-plane! I know its a serious alternative to MSFS. I should look into it. |

What are you using for flight-sim controls?
I'm looking at Alpha yoke and MFG Crosswind rudder pedals. |

Current HOTAS, is Thrustmaster ..T16.000m ( or something weird like that.)
Have Saitek pedals, that are new, but havent had time. My Old...and i mean OLD, CH Products rudder pedals gave up the ghost last year. ( purchased in 02 or 03!) They looked like a "Play-Skool" , or "my first Sony!" product, but damn did they hold up! |

I remember those flight SIM days. I never got around to learn proper startup procedures though. That was back when I just wanted to fly around. I could see a headset that turned when your head turned to be quite beneficial for that.

I have a PS5. Currently playing Assassins Creed Valhalla. I also have Cyberpunk 2077 but I put that on the shelf for a bit while they patch a few things. Seems like it was released a little early. Cyberpunk is truly a next gen game so if on PC or console it better be a fast one.

I remember Myst! I didn't have a mac powerful enough to play it at the time, but someone who lived across the hall at the time did and I remember monopolizing their setup for awhile. It was so different from everything else at the time. I'd boot it back up again, but I think seeing it now would be disappointing....

I am still on PS3 and play Fallout3 and New Vegas until they lock up. I also play a lot of the Moto GP games and SBK 10. Good enough for now but I really should upgrade to a newer platform if just for better controlers as mine are quite worn and sometimes continue turning when you put them back to center! Since my job is A/V I have a 1080 projector with a 118 in screen and full Dolby 7.1. Shakes the house when there is an onscreen explosion and has made a few people sick when watching me play Isle of Mann TT!

One of my favorite " cerebral" games was Carnage Heart, on the original Playstation. They did make several versions on othersony platforms, but I never had those.
If you are a flow path minded person, ( if/then/%/..etc, etc, then this game is for YOU! It's a strategy map game, but the details lies in your programing skills for your machines of war. You dont control your mechs, you do the programming of them. So how they fight, is all dependant on your skill. Each CPU is a certain size grid, and operates at a certain speed. The better you do, the more options of O.K.E.'s you get ( Over Kill Engines) armor, weapons, engines, CPUs.. You program everything as simple or as complex you can fit into the CPU grid. Options of variables range from temps, damage, random counters, radio, and color signal broadcasts ( linking OKEs to perform as a team, if needed) evasive manuevering ( walk jump duck or attack) proximity to enemy, or friend, when and how your OKE selects and fires its weapon. Brainy fun! |

cool!!!
Reminds me of some game in '80s where you program robots and unleash them in arena to duke it out! I think this gave rise to Robot Wars TV show which created Robot Wars game in ... 2001. |

Figured you might like that.
Here is the players introduction to Carnage Heart. ( music is generic 90s horrible though) Kind of long, but probably the best version of concept. I would love a modern version of this game. ( or if I can find/ install an emulator on my PC. https://youtu.be/euu4GDSrYYg |

That's pretty nifty! Makes for some interesting design scenarios!
I found it, RobotWar from 1981!!! Also got into RoboWar on Mac about 10-yrs later. The programming language and robot-capabilities had gotten more sophisticated. Deadlier robots could be created. |
