HUSQVARNA’S Vitpilen 401 will go on sale in spring 2017 alongside a surprise 125cc variant of the roadster, the firm has said on its website.

The Vitpillen 401 uses the frame and engine from parent company KTM’s Duke and RC 390, so the 125 version is certain to use the steel trellis chassis and 124.7cc single shared by the Duke and RC 125.

Visordown revealed in January that the 401 was headed for production, after it was shown as a concept last year alongside a knobbly tyred version called the Svartpilen. Vitipilen translates as ‘white arrow’ while Svartilen is ‘back arrow’.

Husqvarna says the 125 will have a similar ‘minimalist’ design to the 401, which has also been seen undergoing tests on the road in spy shots.

It’s inspired by the 1950s Husqvarna Silverpilen. That’s right, ‘silver arrow’.

Husky announced news of the 125 variant after revealing the Vitpilen 701 concept at last week's Eicma motorcycle show in Milan. The 701, which is also almost certainly production bound, uses the 690cc single from KTM’s 690 Enduro and SMCR, which is also shared by the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto and Enduro.

Husqvarna said: ‘Recognised and globally awarded for its unique design the Husqvarna VITPILEN 401 is set to hit the showrooms soon. The bike that draws on the iconic Husqvarna Silverpilen street bike of the early ‘50s combining it with modern technology and premium quality hardware will be available for sale in the spring of 2017.

‘An exciting new addition to the VITPILEN family, which will be produced to hit the dealer floors simultaneously with the 401, is the brand new VITPILEN 125. Minimalistic in layout the VITPILEN 125 is also powered by a single-cylinder engine, staying true to all the unique design characteristics of its bigger brother.’
