Blackstone Oil Analysis

Just got my report back from Blackstone. The summary box at the top sounds like all is well, but thought I would post it up here to share.

History -
Bike: 2012 Ninja 250
Mileage: 90k on bike
Avg Oil Change: 5000 miles, both oil and filter done together.
Oil type: 10W/40 full synthetic
Oil Used: Varies depending on where I find the filter. Bounced between Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Valvoline, Klotz, Motul, Red Line, Kawasaki brand, etc.
Oil Filter: Again, depends on where I find it: Fram, K&N, Napa, Kawasaki are the usual suspects.

What kind of container do you use to mail it? So they send you one?

I requested a sample kit from them, which was a small white container for the oil, a zip lock bag and absorbant material to put the white container in, and a larger black container to put the bag in. Seals up nice and tight so you can mail it direct through the post office.

You only pay once they do the analysis, so the kit is free.

Their summary seems to say that it's thinned out a bit much, but also that it isn't a problem, which seems kind of contradictory to me. Looking at the numbers, the viscosity is the first thing that caught my eye. Like they said, the transmission gears of these shared-sump engines chew up the oil a lot more than just a standard engine would. That's the main reason I have fairly short change intervals (I usually start to think about it around 2000 miles, and get to it by 2500). Since my Rotella T6 costs 1/4 of the Klotz, I also don't mind changing it sooner. I really need to get around to using that Blackstone kit I had them send me quite a while ago...

I know I had told the lab I was going to try for 7500 but given how long it took me to get 5000 miles, decided to do it on schedule.

Looks like the switch to Valvoline brought your iron down a LOT. Interesting.
