Valve Adjustment Question

I just checked my valves. Intake are .003” and exhaust .004”.
The bike runs perfect. It has 8,800 miles.
Does anyone have any idea how many More miles will it take for the valves to be out of spec?

Hate to move them for .001” of an inch.

Your thoughts please.

The thing is, valve-clearances gets tighter as valve and valve-seat wear into each other. This moves the tip of stem upwards closer to cam. So you're pretty much at limit of range. You'll want to adjust clearances towards opposite end of range.

Thanks Danno,
That is what I thought. I have really big hands. It was all I could do to get the feeler gauges in those tight spots. I hope I can make the proper adjustments.

What is the torque spec for the nuts?

Thanks again.

You're welcome!

Large end of clearance range is:
Intake = 0.13mm (0.005 inches)
Exhaust. = 0.16mm (0.006 inches)

Locknut torque = 12 lb*ft

Thanks Dano,
I got them adjusted. Now I have to go back and do a final torque.
Thanks,
Again.

By the way I own a bunch of bikes. I love riding the little 250 Ninja and getting close to the pavement.

At 73 I still ride them like I stole them.

Going tomorrow to pick up a 1939 BSA KM20. It is 500cc. They were used mostly for dispatch riders. Some were used for recon by the British if they did not have A Harley WLA available.

Keep the skid marks in you underware and not on the pavement!

That's awesome! I've been riding my big bikes less and less after getting Ninjette. Completely stopped using big bikes at track. Ninjettes are so much fun!

I got my Ninjette thinking that I would fix it and sell it cause 250cc's is just too small for a street bike. But now that I have it fixed and I've been able to ride it more I've decided to keep it!! It's unbelievable to me how much power these bikes have. And since replacing the mono shock the handling has improved quite a bit. I can't wait for the fork springs to get done!! I'm sure it will handle way better! I probably wouldn't have been able to get it going without the help of the fine people of this forum! 😁😄😛😋🤪

The .95kg Sonic Springs fork springs are a must.
