Steering Wobble Around 50mph

Hi!

I have a 2009 Ninja 250, and just brought it out from winter storage. Everything works flawlessly, except at around 50mph if I let go of the handlebars, the front wheel/fork/handlebars "wobble" (turns left and right). It never progresses enough to turn into a tank slap, but it's noticeable.

If I speed up to anywhere past 60 or slow down to anywhere below 40, it goes away.

Any thoughts?

We actually have a long thread dedicated to steering wobble: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=13288

To sum it up it could be a factor of things:

1. improper tire pressure
2. unbalanced tire
3. tire brand/design
4. worn tire
5. loose/worn steering stem bearings
6. changes in front suspension angle

Some oscillation can be normal as well.

That is a natural oscillation that is damped by the mass of your hands; hence, try keeping at least one hand on the handlebar at all times when rolling fast.
That wobble could develop into a dangerous tank slapper.

The factory weights at the end of the handlebar are important to reduce that tendency, because those add inertia.
Some bikes with modifications to the handlebar don't have those, which is not good.

If your tires have counter-weights attached to the edges, try switching them to the opposite side, or even better, replace them with the same weight stuck to the center of the wheel's section.

I vote for 1,2 or 5.

When I put on my new front tires that wobble went away. But yea, it could be any one of those Cuong has listed.

Ok...#4 it is. Remember to replace your tires with wear and age as indicators of their condition.

It's of course 1 of what Coug posted...
However, seeing as it's an 09...my guess is it has Pirelli Sport Demons on it.
If so that wobble is normal at those speeds w no hands.
Easy to solve if so... don't take your f*ckin hands off at those speeds...
