Is it possible to add a kick starter to a 1988-2007 pregen?

I'm sure that this question has come up before, but I didn't find anything doing a search.

How difficult would it be to add a kick starter to my bike?

It's far too much to adapt a kick-start, if at all possible.

I have to ask why?

Anything is possible, with enough time, and money, but in the end is it worth it.

I sure wish I had one on my CRF250L. Forgot to check it / charge it before taking it out with the rest of the dirtbikes. Press starter button, hear click. Damn. Not enough energy/initiative to remove all parts to get to battery and jump it from the car, so just ended up playing more with the kids bikes that day.

My point exactly Alex. I just love the ease and simplicity of a kick starter.

As I keep saying in all of my threads, SIMPLICITY, is the key to happiness!

Less to maintain, less to buy, less to move, less to protect, less to insure, less to repair, less to just deal with.

I would rather not have a battery at all...like in my old dirt bikes.

Running without a battery has drawbacks on the road, like if you're stopped at a light and stall, you lose all your lighting. Some states require lights to keep working in a case like that.

A 250 is pretty easy to push start, so if the starter fails or the battery is weak, you do still have a way to get it running.

not true! we never had any successful push starts becase the rear tire just drags itself on the road and cannot keep traction when we let go of the clutch, maybe we asians are too light for it

What gear did you try it in, JM? Most bikes work fine in 2nd. If that skids the wheel, try 3rd.

It's worth mentioning that the positive neutral finder keeps you from just shifting to 2nd. You've gotta get the bike moving a bit before you can move it to 2nd.

Tbh I'd really enjoy a kick starter on my ninjette. A little bike like this one should have one.
