Bike keeps stalling when I closed the choke
A short background.. we moved last weekend, so my girlfriend wanted me to move her bike (used 08 250r with 7.5k miles) to our new place (she's still not comfortable to ride on the highway yet). A couple months ago, I had the full 7-8k service done by a local bike shop and I was told the bike was in excellent condition. The bike was running great, not a single problem.. until now.
Now the bike wasn't started for at least a month before I attempted to ride it to our new place. I started the bike, choke on, but it was taking forever to warm up. Finally the rpms rose passed 2.5k so I began to turn off the choke. As soon as I began to move the lever the RPMs instantly fell below 1k and the bike stalled. So I let it idle longer.. and longer.. and longer with the choke on. As soon as I turned off the choke it died. I had to move the bike that night because it was going to rain the next day and I don't have access to a trailer, so I started riding with the choke on and then turned it off as soon as I got over 10mph. After riding non-stop for about 10+ miles, I came to a light, slowed to a stop, and the RPMs slowly fell passed 1k and the bike stalled. The bike had to have been warm by that time, so I'm not sure what the problem is.. maybe I need to adjust the idle adjustment? Anyone have any suggestions? The carbs were cleaned and sync'd recently during the service, but could it still be a carb issue? |

After the bike is fully warmed up (10-15 minutes), try adjusting the idle to 1500 rpm. Hope that's the problem.
If not, it could be your fuel went bad and is clogging your pilot jets. Drain the tank and carb bowls and try some Seafoam in some fresh fuel to see if that helps. if not, disassembly and cleaning of the carbs may be needed. Was the bike stored inside or outside? Has it been raining a lot since last being ridden? |

Thanks for the quick reply. The bike was parked in underground parking the entire time. It's been cold out, but the bike has never seen rain. I'll first try the idle adjustment, and then move onto checking out the fuel.
