BRT TIS 87 Octane

Just got a BRT TIS used. I was just too annoyed with the RPM fluctuations in the heat. Install was quick and a breeze. I've attached the map controller to my left handlebar and have it set to 'ON'. From what I read here this is the less aggressive map #1, correct? My question, firstly is this map #1, and secondly is it ok to run 87 in there? I haven't heard any knocking since putting it in, I'd rather stick with 87 if I can, though not if the advanced timing is going to cause engine damage:

(I'm a commuter and don't wanna shove premium in there all the time because I'm a cheapo college student)

"ON" is in fact map #1 and yes it is safe to run 87 octane with that map.

Yeah, I have, mostly in the top end though. Seems to pull from 70-90 faster than before. I'm going to have my friend who also has a 250 give me his opinion on it too.

I haven't noticed any "butt-dyno" difference with map #1, maybe a smoother power curve. - still haven't hooked up the map button, so no idea about map #2. Anyone have an opinion on map 2?

Map #1 should be identical to the stock map. Maybe a smother power curve if anything.

Map #2 (running 93 fuel) does seem to have some noticeable differences. Bike seems to accelerate harder and faster. Throttle response seems a bit better and the bike pulls to 14k with little effort.

That makes me want to get it so bad!... I think its a highly over looked upgrade

Is the programmable version really worth it?

IMHO... not for street use. If you have plans for engine work or maybe NOS then a prograable unit would be the proper choice. I'm pretty sure the timing settings on the preprogramed model is already as efficient as possible.

Not sure where you live but premium is only 20 cents more/ gallon here. Even at a 4 gal fill up, it's an extra $.80. That's cheaper than a cheeseburger. Unless you're living on stale cereal and water, you may not even notice the difference. The extra bump in power is worth it to me. Keep in mind my bike is jetted and needles shimmed, which also makes a difference.

LOL..I know, I'm just messing around. I really just forgot twice to put in 93. Next fill-up I'll try and remember. I think getting 87 is really just habit now

I'm not shimmed though, I guess I'll see if there's a difference or not next fill-up. I've been meaning to shim this past month, but I've been way too busy/lazy to pull out the fairings and fuel tank.

anyone know if a BRT tis would work on a pregen? I know some members have used a pregen cdi to correct the newgen rpm indicator issues. does it would both ways?

The pregen's CDI has more advanced timing on it's ignition than the new gen. Unless you need something programmable, I don't think it's necessary. Other than that, I'm sure if you rewired the bike, it could be used.
