Rear caliper won't go back together??

I just replaced the pads on my bike. no issues in the front. But the back calliper won't go back together. Not sure what its called but the sliding part only goes in so far then stops. and if i get it pushed in any it pops back out. any suggestions??

Thanks!

The caliper just floats on the mount. When you put it back on, the disk will keep things in position. (unless I'm not understanding the problem)

Thanks for the reply! But wouldn’t that keep constant pressure on the disk from one pad?

Greased slider pins allow caliper to float laterally.
Be sure to use only high-temp silicone grease.
Also replace accordion seals as necessary.

I think I'm following...

Sometimes when you disassemble, clean, and re-grease the sliding pins the grease seals the pin/bore and pressurizes the air inside and wants to keep the pin from moving completely into the bore.

Too much grease will do that as well.

You need to vent the pin/bore or remove some of the grease.

Thank you!! Looks like to much grease was the problem and like you said it wasn’t able To compress completely

Thanks again!

If it's squishy, that's actually air that's resisting. Just push caliper into pin really hard and it'll squeeze out excess air.
