I could not find it in the Service Manual but it looks like it could be a freeze plug which seems odd that oil would be coming out. Check the radiator to see if oil is getting into the cooling fluid.

Just at a glance I think it's one of two drain holes (one on either side of the head) for the spark plugs. Remember that the spark plug holes are very deep in the engine's head.

It's the spark plug recess drain. There's only one, on that (the down-hill side when parked on the side stand) side of the motor, there's a hole connecting the two plug recesses together. If you've got oil leaking from there it means one of your valve cover gaskets is out of place or damaged.

Sorry to hijak this thread a bit, but since it has been resolved it seems like a good time to ask a related question. When I was washing my bike today I noticed that there was basically dirt crammed in that hole I cleaned it out and it looks clear, so should everything be fine or is this an issue?

I have a new-gen, which doesn't have this hole, but I assume you are better now that it is clear, than you were when it was clogged with dirt. You basically unclogged the drain.... that's a good thing.

Yea thats what I figured just bought the bike used a few weeks ago and noticed today that I have accumulated a whole lot of bugs on the front facing parts of my bike =P during the waxing I noticed that the hole was just brown like mud had gotten in so I sprayed and scraped it out, came out relatively easy.

Every so often you'll see a post here on this forum (and the other ninja 250 site) where somebody has a bike that dies every time he rides in the rain. Sometimes the cause is water pooling in the spark plug recess, messing up the ignition system. That drain hole definitely serves a purpose.

Probably plugged by a mud wasp.
