Arrow Simple highside

Link to original page on YouTube.

Description of the vid:
"This is what happens when you start a slide in a dusty/dirty area. I got to close to the side of the road that was really dirty and it made my bike slide out much faster than I anticipated, when it came onto clean asphalt it caught traction and I go airborne haha."

I thought I saw a motorcyclist. I did I did see a motorcyclist.

That looked like it could hurt the shoulder and back a bit.

I don't have to imagine, I've done this at over 100mph but thankfully walked away to race later in the day. It's like that feel of falling that wakes you up but it lasts longer and you don't walk up from it, although sometimes it'll put you to sleep

(same as most highsides, the rear lost traction, bike starts to slide sideways as the rear is catching up to the front, it regains traction suddenly, which whips the rear of the bike back in line so fast that it flips the bike + rider)

Nope.... Suzuki DRZ 400SM. Looks like he was practicing backing it in, but it went all wrong.

One of his other videos from his youtube channel. Another highside....

Riding at the very limit can make you cross it sometimes

All highside falls are initiated by a rear tire that slides and suddenly regains traction while it is way out of line with the front tire and then catapults the rider high.

Am I the only one wondering why the camera is in the street? Was this an intentional highside?

He's probably trying to do like many others had done in the past and slide the bike right over the camera with his front wheel to the right of the camera view and the rear to the left. It looks really cool but not as cool as a legit highside

For some reason I thought he was demonstrating a high side. I didn't understand why someone would do that, but I don't question the things I see on youtube anymore

I saw a couple of problems there. Firstly, he put is left foot down while sliding. It also seemed he completely let-off the throttle and I suspect applied front-brake for extra-suicidedness.

Best way in a slide is to do none of those things. Instead, keep on the throttle, backing it off maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit and ride it through, keeping your feet on the pegs. I've accomplished this many times in the last 35 years of riding, on various sized bikes, to include my Honda Superhawk 996.

Owning a rear-wheel-drive car or a mid-engine car follows the same principals, such as my Lotus Elise I owned a few years back. In a power-slide, if you let-off the throttle, you're done: the rear-end will whip-around like the same way a hammer flips heavy-side-forward in-flight if going backwards. My Corvette Grand Sport will also respond in-kind, though balanced, and my Saturn Sky Redline and TransAm Firehawk as well.

1. Don't Panic
2. Keep on the throttle (mostly)
3. Don't brake
4. Don't put your foot down, ever.

such a nice guy to put his body on the line to demonstrate a high side crash for the benefit of riders around the world.
