Jackie Stewart on being smooth

I was recently telling someone about a driving skills video Jackie Stewart did for Ford many years ago.

The context was smoothness. There was this cool bit in the video in which a big, shallow bowl was attached to the hood of a car, with a ball in it. The object of the exercise was to drive a figure-8 so smoothly that the ball would stay in the bowl. That meant smooth acceleration, turning and most especially braking. That image really stuck with me and I remember it clearly nearly 30 years later.

Sure enough, someone posted the video. The section I recall starts at 43:00, but the whole thing is pretty cool, especially if you like vintage race footage.
