[motorcycledaily.com] - Will Yamaha?s 2015 R1 Be as Radical as the Original? (Bike Re

In 1998 Yamaha introduced the YZF R1 superbike (pictured above), and it immediately took the top spot in the superbike category. It was a significant leap forward in terms of both power and light weight. Most of Yamaha’s changes to this model have been evolutionary since that time. Perhaps a revolution is overdue. Everyone expects […]

This article says a lot of rumors about the next R1 but does anyone know if yamaha is still considering making an r1/r6 I3 configuration? I haven't seen those rumors in a while and I do very much like triples, a 675cc triple with yamaha reliability/ease of getting yamaha parts would be a pretty sick bike.

+1 on putting that 900 triple into a middle-weight sportbike.

I just wish Yamahaha would build something that doesn't have a motard-like seat height. Both of my feet dangle on their bikes... as in I need to get one or both butt cheeks off just to reach the ground on one side. Fine for the track.... but for the street, not so much.

Interesting. I've only ever been on an R1 [2003] once. Of course I didn't ride it because in all honesty I am not ready to be anywhere near that much power, but the weight of it did leave me puzzled. After riding a 250 for a bit and getting used to it's weight, the R1 did seem too light to me as is.

I've had a few Yamahas and they make a good bike (so Josh Hayes says). I'd love to have a BMW HP4 but if Yamaha make something equal I'd go with the Yamaha. I hate the lights and colors of the BMW.

agreed, I'm not as much of a fan of bmw but they currently make the best production level superbike. If yamaha/honda/kawi step up that'd be sweet especially if it's an I3 configuration. I love the sound and powerband of an I3 engine.

Just for you, CC. This bike was at a track day where I was corner working.

Lovely. Check out the details. Nice welds.

Drew, I've thought about buying a HP4, they are wonderful bikes but I can't get passed the goofy looking headlights.

I love the stand though.

I kinda like the asymmetry of the bike, personally.

I sat on one at the Javits motorcycle show last year. It had heated handgrips.

Heated handgrips on a track weapon.

Only BMW would do something like that.

Gotta love those guys.

Drew, BMW makes wonder machinery, remember WWII, it's those odd headlights that ruin the look. It's kinda like a girl with one huge boob and one tiny boob, it just looks wrong.

But you can still touch them!

There was an HP4 at my last track day. Cool older guy riding it. Cool bike. Can't ask for more in a paddock neighbor at the track. He had a real cool setup as well. Full size Mercedes conversion/utility van. Roll up ramp in the back. Tie downs on the floor. Tent canopy off the side. Bunk bed above the bike parking area. Shelves with cargo betting and tool boxes all built into the walls. So envious.
