Don't Mess with the Transformer

Crazy accident today. Waiting at a red light to make a right turn, this mini-SUV creeps up on me rides right up my back wheel. I couldn't believe he didn't stop. Just kept going and going and going. I didn't get knocked off the bike or anything. The bike got wedged under the bumper and wasn't even dropped on its side. The license plate fender eliminator and LED turn signals are DOA, but no other real damage. Looks like the insurance company is sporting me a new HotBodies Undertail. BTW the car bumper is totaled. A real mess.

That's why I never sit at a light in neutral. Anytime I see someone coming up behind me, I'm ready to move off into a safe zone away from them if they don't slow down/stop.

Glad you weren't hurt and the insurance is covering it.

LOL... Yeah, that's me taking the selfie from 10 feet away. Actually the "Squid" is the driver of the car that did the impacting. Nice guy, no malice at all.

If you look in the last picture, that would be my helmet and jacket parked waiting for the police to do their thing. I was riding in full gear folks. Geez!! lol.

I was very fortunate this was a slow speed crash. No one is walking away with a game changing event. Hopefully we are all a little smarter, but destiny has not been altered.

BTW, I can't emphasize enough how lucky I was. This could have been so much worse. I'd like to think this is a learning experience for all involved.

There is no upside to an accident. FWIW, the police responders could not have been better. Super professional. I am very impressed.

Thanks for the comments all. Good info.

What I didn't say in the op is that I was at the light for all of 5 seconds or so. I was literally checking the traffic lane to see if I could do my right-on-red turn. Shooting out into the lane to avoid the guy behind was not an option as I hadn't completed the traffic check. Ah well...

"Clean Bike": Wouldn't you know I just shined it up. That'll teach me.

Given the weight of those vehicles. I would take the bike to a local shop and have the rear rim and swingarm inspected for damage and to be sure the alignment didn't get messed up.

Sounds like that driver was 'stopped', and maybe got lazy sitting at the light...the automatic transmission was over coming the lazy brake pedal. Did you by chance get to see if he was on the phone/texting as he was creeping up behind you?

Glad you're ok. Good on ya for wearing your gear.
