Fender modification
I really tried to live with the stock rear fender. My plan was to leave this bike as close to stock as feasible. But, putting the bike up on a rear stand was challenging because the darned fender was so long that it interferes with the Pit Bull handle, and it needs to be bent out of the way to lift the bike. Or, it takes 2 people to do it, one to straighten up the bike and the other to carefully put the stand under the spools.
Not liveable. So, I took my handy-dandy hacksaw, removed the license plate, and sliced it cleanly off behind the plate. I managed to keep it pretty clean and level. I was worried it would look terrible, but the functionality was needed for me. Turns out that it looks fine (and now works fine). No need to buy a fender eliminator kit as far as I can tell, and with the new seat cowl that we just added, I'm perfectly happy with how the rear of the bike looks. I love this little ninjette.

Looks like you only removed the tip of the tail, right? Held a reflector at the bottom? I think the only reason Kawasaki had the fender extended so low was because in some states a rear red reflector is required to be in a certain spot.
Looks good man! Still has a factory look. I don't like complete fender removal. As a matter of fact, I just ordered a factory fender for my 07. I cut the original about 2 days after I got the bike. Did not completely remove it, but I realize how valuable it is in wet weather. |

Yup, I just took the end off (from about halfway in the middle of the license plate). Here's what it used to look like:
With that rear reflector gone, it probably is a little less than legal, but if it's a concern you can pick up red reflective license plate bolts to meet the regulations.

I have the same as you Alex. It really cleans up the rear of the bike and I think it makes the fender much less noticeable in person.
Here's a pic |

I cut the bottom 4" off the fender and added a square reflector that is not as chinzy as the stock one. I rounded the whole thing off with a file, and it looks quite decent.

Before: The Cut: After: Plate-light Plate-light and rear-light I made two 5mm holes in the black rear-light frame, used two Ultrabright white LED's as plate light. Last futzed with by Guinss; January 6th, 2009 at 06:58 AM. |

The TARGA fender mod wasn't that hard to do. Yeah you have to take everything off to do it but if you aren't handy with a Dremel than this is the way to do it.
