What material are the pegs made out of?

I broke my left bike peg when I was backing down my driveway to not hit my car and i hit concrete steps with my peg... about 1/3 broke off and I was wondering what material is it made up of because I have a buddy who said he might be able to weld it.

edit: the part is being shipped, i just don't want to cut my leg in the meantime.

Pegs are cheap, so why bother with a fix that might not hold weight and could cause a serious crash?

...until you stand on the pegs to readjust your junk and the peg breaks and you crush your junk on the seat.

On some bikes the front and rear pegs are swappable. Not sure that's the case with the Ninja.

Good point. IIRC, kkim tried the Buell pegs but switched to front-mounted rear pegs instead.

Most likely 6061 Aluminum. Common filler rod for TIG welding aluminum should do it - if you were welding it.

I might just hit it with a grinder to round off the edges for now.

If you are not riding it daily, just remove it.

great idea! hopefully the welding works as a temp solution. I'm scared of tearing up my ironless pants as well (kind of expensive). I know i should be wearing riding pants but i can't find any for a corporate environment. i do wear boots, gloves, jacket, helmet though.

They make overpants you could wear over your work pants. Not as good as leathers, but way better than regular pants.

Or do you have to wear slacks? If so get some over pants.

Carhartt make some heavy duty slacks that would hold up a lot better in a slide than your average office trousers.
