bike won't turn over
After cleaning carbs the bike wouldn't start even though it did before. Battery is fine, we think it might have to do with the vaccum with the gas tank, it tries to turn on. When trying to start it makes a sound like its about to turn over but it doesnt. Also double checked all tubes went in the right spot.

Perhaps some fuel has leaked in to a cylinder and engine is hydraulic locked. Try removing plugs and see if it will turn over. WARNING, fuel might spray out of plug hole. Disconnect CDI so that there will be no spark & put a rag over plug holes to catch any fuel.

Also when we sprayed carb cleaner into the air filter into the carbs, the bike started for a second and then died.

Doesn't sound like it's getting fuel to me.
Make sure the vacuum line from the carb is connected to the petcock. Open the floatbowl drains and see if gas comes out. Put the battery on a charger until it reads 12.7V. If the floatbowls are dry you may just need more cranking to build enough vacuum to open the petcock and get gas flowing - hence the suggestion to charge the battery. |

Try jumping it from a car battery but be sure the car engine is off. If it cranks, the motorcycle battery is weak.

It's either getting too much gas or not enough. If you still can't get it going, pull the spark plugs and look at them - are they black/wet or white/dry? If you've been cranking it for a while, charge the battery. |

We tried both combinations of choke and adjusting the fuel

If the engine is actually turning over but not firing, then it is most likely a rich or lean issue. |

Change your fuel filter. It gets clogged easily since it's just a little screen in the fuel inlet. If you haven't already you should put a real one in. I installed one exactly like this on mine after I had a similar fueling issue and it never happened again:

Have you tried slowly opening the throttle as you are cranking? If your idle adjustments (idle speed screw and idle mixture screws) are off you may have to crack the throttle slightly to get it going. After a few tries cranking on full choke I'd back it down or you'll risk flooding.
Because it ran before you worked on the carbs, I'd say there's a problem in there somewhere. Did you remove the idle mixture caps and set the screws to 2 1/2 turns out? If nothing works, I'd look at the plugs for clues. If the fuel isn't fresh it will complicate your problems, as will low battery voltage. |
