Clutch Engagement?

I have a 2009 model. My clutch seems to engage really far out. Where's the friction point on yours? And also sometimes, the neutral light is off, but the bike isn't in gear. This usually happens in 1st gear, downshift to a stop. I noticed that if I tap down 1st gear one the neutral light goes off and I tap down again, it goes back on. It seems weird.

Clutch engagement is purely rider preference and I like mine close to the bar then some. You can adjust your cable slack and that will change your engagement point, it's the knurled knob that you cable passes through where you lever attaches. Just remember to make sure when you pull on the lever that right when you feel it start to pull on the cable you should have a least some gap between the lever and perch(lever slop).

For the light, yes, it is weird.

Just in case you don't know it yet, the Neutral is easier to engage if you shift all the way to first while coming to a stop and once stopped, pull up with no hesitation; the gears cannot go into second, only into neutral.

Kawasaki bikes have that positive neutral finder mechanism, use it if your light is not reliable.

Yeah I noticed that. I had to stop abruptly once, and the bike was in 6th gear. Once completely stopped, I could only downshift to 3rd gear or so. I couldn't get down to 1st gear and couldn't find neutral, stalled a couple of times because it was in a high gear. Once it rolled a bit, I was able to get back to first.

Weekly, practice emergency stops in empty parking lots with quick shift all the way down,..........it is not hard and could save your life one day.
