A warning to those with 2 bros exhaust.
So me and my friend were riding around town tonight. He has a 2011 ninja 650. He rode behind me for for the majority of the night. Right before we were about to go our operate ways, he pulls in front of me and I realize that his bike is suddenly twice as loud as it was before. So we stop, and find out that his entire two bros muffler had fallen off. The rivets around the end of the pipe closest to the engine had sheared off and the $500 muffler was gone. So, the moral of the story is, make sure the strap around your pipe is as right as you can possibly get it. And check the fit around the bottom of your slip-on.

The 2 Bros for the 250 also has a bolt that mounts it to the passenger pegs. So it has 2 points that hold it to the bike, not just one. Even if one fails, there is always the other.

The 650 also has two places, there is the joint where it attaches to the mid-pipe and the strap that goes around it. My friends's strap came loose which I'm guessing cause excessive vibration, casing the rivets to fail.

My 2Bros just about fell off. Was out riding with my dad and by the time we got home, the bolt holding it to the passenger peg had worked out and it was just hanging out there. Had to do a quick fix with some random bolts and washers from Home Depot, as we were headed to the Gap the next day.

Wouldn't a dab of Loctite, Threadlocker on the nuts and bolts save a lot of this loss of mufflers....?

Agree with the locktite advice; it saves parts and breakdowns. Hopefully your friend was able to backtrack and find his exhaust, $500 cost I definitely would.

Just so we're all clear here, this is where his exhaust failed:
That black end piece was still attached to the bike. But the rest was gone. Having a full system wouldn't have helped this in any way. The muffler would have still been subject to the same conditions. As stated before, I think the only way to protect yourself from this is to put a little dab of loctite on the bolt that holds the strap in place.

if the rivets are the parts that failed, I would be on the horn with 2 Brothers really fast....
that would seem to me, to be a manufacturing defect...... hopefully you have pictures of the incident, to send them, if it was me I would be looking at 2 Brothers for a replacement even if you had a strap on the can, it would have only stopped the can from being lost, it still would have fallen apart at that point...... seems to be a defective part........ |

Yeah, I'd be on the phone with 2 Bros complaining about that too. That's a part that the consumer doesn't even have to touch during install.

I'm not complaining about him being rich because anytime we go for rides, he buys my gas and pays for food and whatnot. But yeah, it was definitely defective. He just doesn't care.

It could be a defect in workmanship or quality control, and 2 Brothers should be notified of the issue and what happened, there could be more like this, or maybe it was an isolated issue, either way, it should be reported to them, hate to see more cans falling off, and someone getting hurt in the process, it could have been you getting hit by it if you were behind him, could have been a cager, and so on. He has ordered a new one, but do try and tell him to take pictures and let 2 Brothers know about this, even if he is not wanting anything from them... it will benefit us all |

Lost my bolts bar the Two Bros spacer last month. Re-ordered the bolt, cost $22. The issue being instructions assume you know about loctite. I didn't at the time. Another point, ditch the Two bros spacer, way to big. I used the OEM, and the Two bros bolt, some loctite. Perfect.
Will be checking my other bolts in case they are lose on the exhaust. Posted via Mobile Device |

This is common with the carbon fiber cans appearently. My 650 has the aluminum can and I did have to redo the rivets, but only because previous owner installed muffler wrong and it contacted the swingarm causing undo stress.
Its fine now! |
