Ordering from Cycle Gear: Meh.

I just went online to order a quick-fill system called the Tuff Jug and Ripper Cap. I googled it and a Cycle Gear ad shows up in the search and says: "39.99 free shipping" Great, That's $5.00 cheaper than I was looking at., So I click and proceed to order. While I'm in the shopping cart a popup says "free shipping" I click it and continue on through Paypal and then I find out that there is $6.99 added for shipping. I go through with the final approval and do the online chat to notify CG that I need a shipping refund. After several minutes of back and forth where I posted the link that says nothing other than "free shipping", the CG person says that's only if you buy stuff that totals more than $99.99. I say that's deceptive, I want to cancel the order. She comes back with: I can't do that, you have to call to cancel it. So I called and cancelled the order, went on ebay and ordered the same thing for the $5.00 more than the CG price with actual free shipping and no tax to boot.

fine print, nothing like false advertising with text the size of 2 pixels. You could see it if your monitor was the size of a football field.

I'm not a fan of fine print... Or sales where ya don't get a discount if you haven't signed your life away to the company store and faithfully carry their tracking device

Nothing like stores now a days asking for your email and phone number when you check out. Nope, don't need your spam mail nor is there a reason you need my number.

I run AdBlock, I never see ads.

I went to CG's website and looked at the jug + spout. No mention of free shipping. Cart in the upper right said $99.00 to go before free shipping.

Make up a prefix, if they are really going to send you something you want like a receipt you can pick it up. Emails are deleted after an hour.

Spam me all you want:

I have 3 emails: one for professional use(Bills, job interests, loans), another for spam and my college email that I usually use for educational. The spam one I usually just unsubscribe when I get bs emails. Other than that I check each one each day and none are ever overwhelmed.

It's what comes up on the google search that is misleading. The sponsored ad just says free shipping with no other wording to the contrary. What would that mean to you?

Then when you go to your cart, a big popup says "Free Shipping! Click to continue" Then it takes you right through checkout. I had already seen the $99 free shipping thing, but the way the original ad implied it, I thought the free shipping was for that particular item.

Regardless of the fine print, the ad is misleading. Any future dealings with Cycle Gear will be conducted with a heapin' helpin' of skepticism.

This explains why I saw nothing.

It also may NOT be Cycle Gear running those ads, you know.

A call to their Customer Service for a kindly heads up may get you somewhere.....

Is this what you saw??

I did the online chat thing and got nowhere. Interesting that when I called to cancel the order they guy didn't even ask why.

Makes even more sense now.

I do agree that is false advertising.

Too bad they won't listen to it. Maybe send them the picture I have linked here??

Sounds more like an issue with Google, not Cycle Gear.

IMO, if Cycle Gear did or didn't know what was in the ad that they paid for they're responsible either way.

I'm not blaming Cycle Gear for all the world's problems and I'm not saying that I won't buy anything from them. Just saying that I'll be much more discerning about the transaction if I do. Rider's Discount and Sportbike Track Gear are two companies that I have used that I have much more confidence in. They both have excellent customer service and I haven't seen they type of shenanigans that I saw with Cycle Gear.

Someone in my local CG does something to piss me off at least every other time I go there. The only one that knows a damn thing about what he's selling is the manager. One time I was buying an Icon Stryker vest (kind of a ****** product for the price, I know) and I made a joke about how "Well, I guess my spine's worth $70." the lady who I was buying from said to me in a slow, condescending voice (the kind of voice you use to talk to your child after making their first potty) "That's very smart and mature of you." I wish I'd have walked out instead of buying it. She doesn't work there anymore.

My local CG is generally pretty good (San Francisco). Only complaint I have is that they sometimes don't have something I'm looking for on hand so I would have to place an order there and go back when it arrives. It would be nice if we could order online and ship to store for these cases.

I recall complaining about CG in the thread about their tie up with Revzilla. Short version: CG is really terrible at web based commerce. They've gotten the hang of sending daily e-mails about a random assortment of uninteresting items though.

The closest physical store has at least 1 good employee. What they don't have is any meaningful stock, thus negating the only advantage physical stores have. If I can't touch it, it's not worth driving there vs ordering from a proper online store.

You talking about the store in Springfield?

That place is so over crowded you can hardly walk around in it.

Yes, that's the one. From my perspective it isn't crowded because of the quantity of goods, but because of the closet-like floor space. It's just a very small shop.
