Major Service

Hey guys, does anyone know how much it will cost me to do the first 600 miles major maintenance on my bike? The bike is at 2k+ and I just found out that the original owner never serviced it.

It's not really a major service. It's mostly just an oil change. Even so, most dealers will try to get away with something like $118. Mine did.

It cost me $0. The 600 mile service is very easy to do yourself if you have a rear stand, tools, time and motivation. There's a DIY over in the in the tech section of the forum. It's a great way to spend the day and get to know your bike. Nothing wrong as well with going to the stealership to get it done either if you want to shell out the bucks. Just call around and get some quotes.

A stand is a good investment anyways.

some dude is charging me 150 bucks but he he has a 30 mile round trip to pick it up and drop it off. Like i mentioned, I am concerned because the previous owner never serviced it and it has like 2,400 miles on it now so i'd prefer someone with more experience to look at it.

I wanted to do it myself and I will from now on but considering the fact that it has never been checked out from when it was bought, I wanted to give it to someone with more experience. I have the rear stand and the tools that came with the bike, what other tools do i need to start picking up in preparation for the next service. Thanks

i wouldn't have wasted the money, just a oil change and checking some stuff. if the original dealership did their job right it will be fine.

Do they not suggest that you check the valves at 600 miles?

The tool kit comes with all the basics. You can add a few things to make the job easier. For instance, the screwdriver that comes with the kit is pretty much useless. Everyone should have a decent socket set in their garage. A torque wrench is highly recommended.
