If the battery is fine and the charging system is fine, it can really only be the gauge itself or the ECU. If the bike is running OK but just the gauge is acting flaky, I think I'd agree with your dealer's hunch that it's just a bad gauge unit. Months from now, spare parts for this bike would be a piece of cake to get. But this early, it might be a pain in the neck. Good luck, and I hope it comes in quickly.

another thought....

Are they dropping the 250 from the lineup, or will they continue to build it?

It's dropped for north america. Some markets overseas are getting a 249cc version of the new bike. Evidently some of those are FI, and yet others are still carbed.

rode over to wilsons today, asked a dude if they had the 300's as they advertized, he said they had 2 black/white 300's in stock and both sold within 8 hours. I then asked if he had any idea when they were gonna get more, he went into a room and had another employee call up Kawasaki with me right there, the lady said kawasaki told her they'd be getting more within 5weeks. I thennnn asked when they would be getting the 636, she said not till late november

@lgk, this is what the info in Germany says:
'The die-cast aluminum cylinder without sleeve have coated careers, exactly like the supersports Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-6R'
Hope this helps.

If you are a Costco member ask to see the Costco price sheet, it has every bike they sell with the applicable Costco prices, and they have to show it to you if your are a member

I had someone from the local dealership call me about the Costco program. (I filled something out online) She said they haven't done it in the past but they might be doing it now. She's not sure. She did say that if they do do it, I could save a bunch of money. Lets hope so. They are so much more here.

The last time I was at Costco was several years ago, but I don't remember seeing any motorcycles there. Is this a new thing, or just limited to California? Do they sell multiple brands or just Kawasaki? Assembled or in the crate?

Just curious.

From what I was told, you buy it through the dealership but it's special Costco prices.

Costco has an agreement with dealers. You don't actually buy it directly from Costco, they just broker the transaction. Same deal for cars, boats, and a few other things. As far as I know, the only motorcycle brand they do it for now is Kawasaki.

Costco & Kawasaki just came up with a fantastic reason to never buy a new bike from the other big 4

I went to the link. They clearly list a Ninja 300. However, they wont give me the name of the dealer. That seems strange since most "dealer locators" just give you a list of them rather than the cloak and dagger stuff. They want you to put in your info and an agent will call you.

So what does Costco charge for the Ninja 300?

Do they still charge dealer prep charge, dealer assembly charge, customer orientation fee, etc.?

Umm, that's how it works. If you want to buy a bike through them, give them your information. If you don't, don't. The price in Cali looks like it saves the buyer about $500 off the current going rate, so well worth doing; someone already successfully used the costco deal in San Diego. It basically waives most of the add-on costs that dealers are tacking on otherwise like freight/prep/etc.

We've already got a thread going for the Costco pricing on the ninjette, it probably makes more sense to continue this part of the discussion in there:

Check it out, Costco's ninja 300 pricing

A dealership in your area might not be participating. When I did it a local dealership came up. Which is odd for Hawaii. They usually don't do it.

@Jiggles I will for sure do that when I go in later this week.
@GreenNinja They knew very well about the costco program, they say they honor prices but as long as its listed.

@n4mwd I did the same thing, it is listed and that's what I told the dealer. They called me later to confirm again that the 300 is going to be released this week to them and they said that they called their costco agent (or whatever the person is) and said they haven't called them back yet.

So when I go in later, I will for sure check up on the costco program at this dealer and let everyone know what's up!

My dealer called and said he had a new white Ninja 300 in stock. I told him I would be there in a day or two because of the heavy rains. Got there and he said it only lasted for a few hours on the floor before someone bought it.

So what I want to know is Which one of you did that?

He said they had another one in the crate and would put it out soon.

Jealous! Are they offering the ABS on the pure black models, or just the green/black SE's up there?

In Canada, If you want ABS it only comes in pure black and metallic moondust gray. The SE green/black, red, black comes without ABS.

So spoke to my dealer again and they are not officially part of the Costco program oh well. But on another note, right after work today, I am getting my Ninja 300!! super excited, first one out of this dealer an first in SCV!

Forgot but getting the white one? Congrats!!! I'll be sure to update the mpg thread sometime this weekend with my results (work week, no fun) but hopefully your new ninja 300 will be pulling you through Cali's gas squeeze

I would say: All the better. Go in there armed with the info you have with the Costco price, explain how you know that Costco gets at least $250 from their arrangement and that you know they make a profit even at that price, then refuse to pay any more than that. Threaten to go to the closest dealer that is part of the Costco program. Because they didn't have to split the costs with Costco, you BOTH come out on top.

Did the costco website return that dealer's name after you entered all the info?
