Anyone have an LED tailight?
Thinking about getting an led tailight, are they really that much brighter? what if one of the led bulb burns out, youd have to get a whole new tailight then right?

Yeah you would if that one led bothered you. and yes they are awesome and at least a half times brighter. I have "2008-2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Integrated Sequential LED Tail Lights Clear Lens"
Every light still works since I got it 7 months ago. |

I have the one mentioned above, and it is much brighter than stock even with the smoke lens. If your concerned though, custom LED offers a two year warranty. They don't offer sequential lights however, they think they aren't as safe so don't offer them anymore.

I bought one from Tri who posts on these boards (http://www.modmy250.com). I believe the LED is actually a CustomLED taillight that Tri wires up to make it plug and play.
I'm super happy with mine. It's much brighter and I feel more visible. |

I have a custom led tail and I love it. It's definitely way brighter than stock, but also a little more directional I find. This can be seen when you back the bike up against the wall, the stock one tends to spray more light around.
My custom led tail has integrated signals, but I never hooked them up because I think they're dangerous. They'll only confuse people. I personally got it because I like the strobe effect upon hitting the brakes. Strobes don't work well on incadescent bulbs like the stock tail. I use it as another visibility tool to alert traffic behind me that I'm there, to avoid rearendings. |

Sweet. I think I'll order one from custom led then. I really want a bright one, and I was wanting to have sequential turn signals but I was wondering if they were dangerous. I'd rather be safe than sorry and just use my stock turn signals as to not confuse people. Plus the stock turn signals stick out so you can see it better verses just being on a tailight. Good thing is that's less wiring I think since if you get a sequential light you need to install diodes and ****...or whatever.

The tail lights are integrated. Theyre just not sequential on the CustomLED. And whether or not sequentials are safe, theres much room for debate. There shouldn't be a need for a diode. Order the one from Tri @ ModMy250. All of his stuff are plug n play.

^ I don't think there's much room for debate that any sort of integrated turn signal (sequential or not) is less safe than a signal that's spaced away from the center of the bike per DOT requirements.
if you are willing to take the risk of making your bike illegally modified and your turn intentions less visible just to make it look "cooler", that's your own decision. I don't recommend it,and neither does DOT or law enforcement. |

Yeah Im speaking on the sequentials here which is what CustomLED got rid of. Of course the integrated signals are less visible thus making them less safe...

Yeah I think I will just keep use of my stock signals and only hook up the brake light part.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAILLIGHT-KA...a054d6&vxp=mtr aw this on ebay, seems like a good deal. too good to be true? CustomLed's are expensive, over $100 |

The ebay light you posted has 11 LEDS the CustomLED ones have something like 20+ LEDs? The other thing nice about the CustomLED is the different modes that you can program into the tail light.

^this...
I did a lot of research on the LEDs available on the market. I liked the bikemonkey one as well as the customLED one. I liked that the customLED one has the built-in strobe feature, since that was one of my key requirements in buying an LED tail. Also, you can find some information online comparing the brightness... most people said the CustomLED ones were the brightest out of all of them available, and it makes sense, since they have more LED's. you get what you pay for. cheaper ones are cheaper. |

the sequentials are nice, and maybe more clear than just plain integrated signals, but I think they're all just a little confusing to average drivers. Multiple colors from one light source confuse. |

Yeah I think the safest option would be to just keep use of stock signals. I think I will be going with custom led then.

One of the students in my MSF class had small flush mounts up front and integrated tail light. The instructor couldn't see his turn signals from in front of him and I could see his turn signals from right behind him. And we were both specifically looking for them.
That right there convinced me integrated lights are a bad idea.

On mine the the brake and tail light turn off on the side of the lamp that being used as a signal. Or is it a matter of it being too small to see that makes it unsafe?
It's not like it's a big deal since you're supposed to drive like your invisible anyway. |
