Unexpected dangers
Here's a bad situation I have seen a couple of times ( italic section if you are in the UK, Oz, Japan etc')
In the car following a long truck maybe 100yards ahead long straight road with no oncoming traffic. A motorcycle is riding 3/4 to the truck pulls out to overtake, looks good. What I can see and the rider can't is that just up the road a car at a minor junction from the right is waiting to turn left onto the main highway. He has seen a slow truck coming and figures he has time to pull out and join the road. He does, and the rider half way through his pass finds himself facing an oncoming car seemingly out of nowhere. Beware that one. If you know any other such trap situations post them here and maybe save a life |

On bigger non-interstate roads, 2-4 lanes each direction:
All lanes but one are stopped. Rider flies down the open road in order to overtake the stopped side traffic. Rider comes too quickly down the road and finds traffic is stopped prematurely to allow oncoming cars to cross the lanes while the light is red. Rider has no time to stop and nowhere to go but head on into the broad side of the car.

The other day while following a large truck, which uses his right signal, slows to a stop to tun into a gas station, I begin to go around at less than 20 mph on left. Last second I realize he is stopped to allow a Harley to pull out first! The size of the truck totally blocked the bike, which nearly clipped his bumper, The Harley appeared suddenly right in front of me. I was able to stop (while leaving a black strip on the road) just inches away from the other bike! Had I maintained my speed to pass the truck we would have collided. Be really careful passing any traffic that blocks even part of your view and always be ready to stop.
