I have 3 and plan to get more. They are very personal to me and i don't show them to very many people. All are hidden. Next one i plan to get is a portrait of my grandmother.

i have 2 relatively small tats..one on each fore-arm. both were done when i was younger.
right side is a hand-job from way back in the day says: Kona
(...thats Donna in hawaiian)
the left has a cloud with a bolt of lightning and: Ka Rae, under the cloud...
short for daughter's Karretta Rae.
am working on getting the Kona covered with a pueo, hawaiian owl.

tattoo

I used to race bicycles . So I wanted to get a bike related Tattoo. I thought about getting the grease mark That the chain ring leaves . But it looked like dirt. So I painted the gear with ink and pressed it to my leg. Then took the campy super Record chain ring off the bike and went to the tattoo shop so the artiest could copy the ring to a stencil.
Taa daa.

Here's mine. I want to get a few more, though.

It needs to be touched up, and I want to get flames around it. That would be awesome.

My wife has 4 of them. Zero for me.

I'm working on a few designs for myself. One is a St. Michael inspired custom creation. Another borrows from The Boondock Saints and incorporates guns!

Finally got half of it done

Ok, so I just had the outline finished by Steve at Tattoo Zoo here in Raleigh. Its been about a full 24-hours since I had it done and it didnt hurt at all. It actually felt really good in an odd way. Steve was an amazing artist and free-handed the entire piece directly onto my back without using stencil or paper transfers. He started off working on me with sharpies to figure out how to get the piece to look good and he spent probably a good hour or more doing this before he had her just right. What Steve did/does is amazing and I could never imagine having the skill that he has. The picture that I am uploading is only the outline so the shading still has to be done on the 9th. Also excuse any poor quality photo, I had to set up my camera to auto-shoot and then position where I thought it would hit square on me. Anyway, here is 50% of the piece I'm having done. It took Steve about 3 hours or so to get this outline done before we had to call it a night. I know it looks a little odd/red/cartoony. But it'll look much better once he can get in and shade her.
I'm truly excited about what the work he did, and am more than satisfied so far with the outcome. =D

IMO, I think outlines look way worse than the finished product (obviously, right?) Considering the outline already looks sweet, I'd say you're going to have a good looking piece of art when that's done!
Keep us posted on the updates!

Thanks Jon (and tell her I said thanks also)! I'll have to get something down on paper first, but I may shoot for the end of summer to begin my sleeve so that I won't have to worry about swimming or extended amounts of direct sunlight...

getting lots of tattoo work during the summer is never a good idea. no sun or swimming allowed. good thinking.

Thanks man.

But I'm kind of worried that I'll have to make a trip up there just for a consultation. I'm not a good artist (at all) and to try and explain my idea over the phone would be next to impossible. Oh well, gotta do what I've gotta do if I want some good work done...

yeah, you'll need to come up for a visit. maybe come up on saturday and talk, spend the night in dallas, then get tattoo'd on sunday if you like what they've come up with?

i'd offer you my couch, but i'm literally out of town every weekend at the moment. good camping weather plus racing in two different series is keeping me busy

That's actually a pretty good idea (to come up on Saturday).
I appreciate the invite (and was actually going to mention meeting up for a ride), but I already figured since track season's started you'd be pretty busy. Who knows though, maybe by the time I actually head up there you may be free
LOL, yeah right

I'm not a tat person myself but can understand the special meaning to some people and why they'd want them. I feel bad for people that got swept up in the hype. I know too many friends who've walked in and randomly picked something off the shop wall, or gotten those arm bands, or the "tramp stamps" with roses and the big wings and all. Some things are cool when your 24, but change a bit when you're 34. All the guys I know in their 50s with tattoos, well...the artwork doesn't look like the original intent anymore, pretty much a smeary blur. Now my local buddies in Maui have some fricken great traditional tats that have family and cultural history, and they look great with them. There's not much family or cultural history with Chinese letter tattoos on the calf of a 20yr old white chick from Utah. But each to their own, I'm not one to judge and it has no effect on how a feel about or interact with people.

That's always been my philosophy on tattoos: get something sentimentel, unique, etc. b/c chances are if it's something you pick off the wall, someone's got something exactly like it and you'll more than likely regret it after a while...
The meaning to a personal tattoo will still be there ... even when your skin's too wrinkly to read it.

Tats- I has 'em None of mine really have any meaning. I have Scottish background so that was my flimsy excuse for the triskel shoulder piece. My birds are pirate vs. ninja swallows, just a modern spin on the traditional good vs. evil idea. Lower back was my first, total flash off the studio wall but oh well. Someday I may get it done over.

Saw your panties!!!

Just kidding. Though I'm not a tattoo person the artwork blows me away. It's skin for fricksakes! There's a lot of talent out there. I particularly like portraits.

Well all of my tatts have meanings some are personal meanings and others have stories behind them but I do have a little too many to get into. I don't have pics of all of them but here are a few, I designed them all. I used to do tats but sold my kit a while ago. I'm nowhere near getting done, I'm sure all of you with tats know what I mean when I say they are extremely addictive.

Whenever I see a non-Asian person with an Asian character tatoo i wish someone who could read Chinese was there to see if it really said wht the person thinks it says.

Funny you should say that. When I was chatting with steve while he was workin on me. He said that a customer of his had gotten a Kanji tatto that was supposed to say "Hard Times" (this was some older biker dude that thought kanji was cool) But the literal translation said "economic Recession" he found out from a japanese clerk at a store that laughed at him. The translation wasnt 100% literal into english. Gotta watch out for that.

And its true, to each their own. But I'm not japanese so no kanji on this body =)

And you are right....it is addicting in a sick sort of way...I paid a guy to inflict pain on me, sweet!. I'm already getting ideas for my next one. lol

An old buddy of mine got one with Chinese symbols and found out that it meant something completely off the wall (like the tree's nose is running or something like that)...he said he didn't mind

Show me those T.... tattoos!

So, just got a new tattoo and it occurred to me, showing off and seeing other peoples tats is just as much of an experience as seeing other peoples rides, so lets see em people, remember, the more picture intensive, the better

It say's "the more we sweat in training, the less we bleed in battle"
